Snow Emergency in Hellertown Takes Effect at 5 p.m.

Hellertown Borough Manager Cathy Hartranft announced Thursday morning that a snow emergency will take effect in the borough at 5 p.m., and remain in effect until further notice.

Hellertown Borough Manager Cathy Hartranft announced Thursday morning that a snow emergency will take effect in the borough at 5 p.m., and remain in effect until further notice.

During a snow emergency, all vehicles must be removed from along designated snow emergency routes in the borough, such as Easton Road from Cherry Lane to Main Street.

For example, according to the borough's ordinance, all snow and ice must generally be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours of when it ceases to fall.

According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, the Saucon Valley and surrounding areas can expect to receive 6 to 10 inches of snow from the storm that is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the area from 1 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to plunge to near zero on Friday night.
