L. Saucon Council Candidate Advances to General Election

Donna Louder, who ran as a write-in candidate in the May primary election, received enough votes to appear on the ballot in November's general election.

A Lower Saucon Township resident who ran for council as a write-in candidate in May's primary election received enough votes to appear on the general election ballot in November.

According to final Northampton County election results published online, Louder received a total of 140 write-in votes from Democrats and about 50 write-in votes from Republicans.

Ten write-in votes on either ballot (Democrat or Republican) are needed to qualify for placement on the general election ballot.

Louder is challenging township councilmen Ron Horiszny (R) and Glenn Kern (R-President), both of whom are seeking re-election to four-year terms.

Kern received 73 votes and Horiszny received 67 votes from Democrats, who voted for them in the primary by writing their names on the ballot.

Kern was also the top vote-getter on the Republican ballot, with 380 votes. Horiszny received 319 votes from Republicans.

A member of the township's landfill committee who has been outspoken on issues related to IESI Bethlehem Landfill and its proposed expansion, Louder's name initially was to appear on the Republican primary ballot.

She withdrew her name after her candidacy was challenged on a technicality, vowing to run a write-in campaign instead.
