Former Phillie Dickie Noles to Speak in Hellertown

On Feb. 11, the well-known former Major Leaguer will be the guest speaker at a Community Sports Breakfast at the Dewey Fire Company banquet hall.

A well-known former Philadelphia Phillie will be the guest speaker at annual Community Sports Breakfast next month, the church recently announced.

Dickie Noles, who played professional baseball for 16 years, will discuss his Major League career as well as his life as a recovering alcoholic and a devout Christian.

A North Carolina native, Noles, 55, played for the Phillies, the Cleveland Indians, the Detroit Tigers, the Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers between the late 1970s and the early 1990s.

One of the highlights of his career was pitching for the Phillies' 1980 World Series championship team, and he continues to work for the franchise as its Certified Employee Assistance Professional.

He is also active as both a motivational speaker and a speaker on topics related to alcohol and drug abuse, and in 2010 he was the recipient of the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association's Humanitarian of the Year award.

Noles lives in Delaware County and has three children as well as a grandson.

This year's breakfast will be held at the  banquet hall in Hellertown on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 9am.
