Boy Allegedly Trespasses on Train Tracks

Lower Saucon Township Police say a boy was cited for trespassing for allegedly being on Norfolk Southern property in the 2000 block of Riverside Drive.

Lower Saucon Township Police issued a reminder to local residents in a news release about a recent citation for trespassing: stay off railroad property. In the release, police said a boy was cited for trespassing the evening of May 7, after he was allegedly observed picking up railroad bolts and spikes from along the train tracks in the 2000 block of Riverside Drive. That is in the Steel City section of the township. The tracks are Norfolk Southern property, and the metal pieces were returned to the Norfolk Southern Corporation, police said.

Battery Stolen from Car Parked in Garage, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say they are investigating the theft of a battery from a car parked inside a Steel City garage.

Lower Saucon Township Police say they are investigating the theft of a car battery. Sometime between April 20 and April 27, the battery—which is valued at $100—was removed from a 1998 Chrysler Sebring that was parked in a garage in the 2500 block of Riverside Drive, Steel City, police said in a news release. Police said an estimated $250 in damage was done to the vehicle to get the battery out of it. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Lower Saucon Township Police at 610-317-6110.

5 Tires Illegally Dumped on Riverside Drive, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say five tires were dumped on Riverside Drive near Redington Road.

Lower Saucon Township Police say they are investigating the discovery of five tires left alongside Riverside Drive near Redington Road as a case of illegal dumping. In a news release, police said officers were dispatched to the area where the tires were found after receiving a "dumping complaint" April 8. The tires were dumped sometime between April 7 and 4:45pm April 8, police said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Lower Saucon Township Police at 610-317-6110.

Steel City Park Upgrades Postponed Until 2014

In a news release, Lower Saucon Township announced that the Steel City Park construction scheduled for this year has been postponed due to permitting delays.

Lower Saucon Township Manager Jack Cahalan has announced that due to delays in obtaining permit approvals from PennDOT, the start-up of the construction planned for Steel City Park will be put off until 2014. Steel City Park, which is a 1.8 acre neighborhood park in the Steel City section of the township, is part of the extensive system of parks and athletic fields that provide a wide range of recreational activities for township residents. Built in 1974, the park was in need of upgrades and refurbishment. Following a public meeting with Steel City residents in August 2008, the township planners and Parks and Recreation Board made …

Hunters Causing Problems at Hill Climb, Police Say

After recent confrontations between trespassers and members of the Bushkill Motor Club, which owns the property colloquially known as the Steel City "Hill Climb," Lower Saucon Township Police say discarded roofing nails have been found.

Lower Saucon Township Police announced Thursday that they are investigating recent problems at the Steel City "Hill Climb" that may stem from several confrontations between hunters trespassing on the property and members of the Bushkill Motor Club, which owns it. In a press release, police said they were most recently dispatched to the club at 2248 Riverside Drive on Jan. 29, for a report of criminal mischief. However, reports of problems with trespassers date back at least two months, to Dec. 1, when "a hunter was confronted" about trespassing at the Hill Climb, police said. There is one family up on springtown hill rd. who hunt everyones property around them without permission even though it's all posted.   more ›

Man Arrested for DUI on Connecting Drive On Aug. 19 at 4:55pm police say Raul Ortiz-Ortiz, of the 700 block of East Fourth Street, Bethlehem, was stopped on Connecting Drive after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. Police said Ortiz-Ortiz was subsequently determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested for DUI. Man Arrested for DUI at Friedensville Road DUI Checkpoint On Sept. 15 at 2:37am police say Keith R. Appel, 45, of the 800 block of Maple Road, Hellertown, was operating a Chevy truck when he was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in the 1800 block of Friedensville Road. Burglary at Steel City Body Shop Under Investigation

Lower Saucon Township Police announced Thursday that they are investigating a forced entry burglary at Kelley Auto Body, 2238 Riverside Drive.

A Lower Saucon Township business was the scene of a forced entry burglary during the overnight hours of Aug. 15, township police announced Thursday. In a press release, police said that the burglary occurred at Kelley Auto Body, 2238 Riverside Drive, Steel City. Police identified the victim of the burglary as John Kelley, of the same address. Some items were reportedly taken from inside the business, but authorities did not identify what they were. "The offender(s) have not been identified as of yet," police also said. Allentown Man Arrested on Marijuana Charge After Traffic Stop On May 28 at 9:38pm police say a grey Mazda was stopped on Rt. 378 near Center Valley Parkway after it was observed failing to stay within a lane several times "and quickly gaining speed from the following cruiser." Police said that after stopping the car its driver was identified as Arun Singh, of the 6600 block of Lehigh Street, Allentown, and that he denied officers permission to search the vehicle. When officers advised Singh that his vehicle would be impounded, they say he admitted to having marijuana in the car's center console. Police: Man Threatened, Cursed and Antagonized Officer

Lower Saucon Township police say Charles A. Kline Jr., 38, of Steel City, was cited for disorderly conduct for allegedly threatening a township police officer following a Feb. 24 traffic stop.

Following a Feb. 24 traffic stop on Riverside Drive, a township man's allegedly antagonistic behavior landed him in more hot water than he otherwise would have been, according to a Lower Saucon Township Police Department press release issued Sunday. According to the press release, Charles A. Kline Jr., 38, of the 2100 block of Schwab Avenue, Steel City, was stopped at 10:35pm for "almost crashing into a guardrail." Police said that after Kline was stopped "he was very belligerent from the beginning," in spite of the fact that the officer who stopped him determined that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the near-accident.
