The Saucon Valley is under a freezing rain advisory through 10 a.m. Saturday.
Note: This story has been updated with new information. Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township are under a freezing rain advisory for light freezing rain until 10am Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The winter weather advisory that was issued earlier has been replaced by the freezing rain advisory. WFMZ says the storm could affect the area, with snow, rain and ice arriving later this afternoon. We could wake up to an icy glaze tomorrow. The Weather Service says: Precipitation is expected to change to rain Saturday and rain could be heavy at times. Sunday will be sunny and warmer with a daytime high in the 40s.

A winter storm will make Friday messy in eastern Pennsylvania, but the worst of it is forecast to hit New England.
The National Weather Service says a winter storm will bring snow, sleet and rain to the Hellertown area Friday into early Saturday morning, and a Winter Storm Watch for 4 to 10 inches of snow remains in effect. The worst impact from the storm will be felt in New England, where a nor'easter-type storm could bring blizzard conditions and feet of snow to some areas. In the Lehigh Valley, the NWS is predicting snowfall that will be measured in inches. WFMZ is predicting 3 to 6 inches of snow for the Lehigh Valley. Snow should develop Friday morning, then mix with or change to sleet and rain, before changing back to all snow. UPDATE: As of 3pm Wednesday, the National Weather Service had issued a Winter Storm Watch for Northampton County, effective from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. According to the watch statement, after a wintry mix develops earlier Friday there will be the potential for heavy snow and gusty winds across parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Five to 10 inches of snow are possible, according to the NWS, with the highest amounts across the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey. A quick-moving storm is expected to bring snow to the Saucon Valley Friday afternoon and night, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. Snow could start falling late Friday afternoon and continue throughout the evening, creating hazardous travel conditions. Two to three inches of the white stuff are possible, according to the NWS. The Eastern Pennsylvania Weather Authority has predicted 1 to 3 inches of snow for the Lehigh Valley area, with higher amounts falling further south. Two to four inches of snow are forecast by the EPWA for the Philadelphia area and southern New Jersey. Temperatures will remain below freezing over the weekend, according to the forecasts.

Here are two highlights from the annual Winter Outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration: The winter outlook offers no clear trend for Pennsylvania or the Northeast. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for freezing rain for Northampton County. The advisory will be in effect from 7pm Sunday through 6am Monday.
Commuters and school students may want to wake up earlier than they normally do on Monday, in order to assess weather conditions. That's because the National Weather Service has issued an overnight Freezing Rain Advisory for Northampton and Lehigh counties, as well as other parts of northeastern Pennsylvania and northwestern New Jersey. The advisory will be in effect from 7pm Sunday to 6am Monday, and has been issued because of the possibility of freezing drizzle to occur. New report puts accumulation predictions higher than original prediction.
It's time to get the snow boots out, folks. According to Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol, the Lehigh Valley can expect between 2 and 6 inches of precipitation in the form of snow and sleet over the weekend. The snow is predicted to begin overnight tonight and continue through Saturday. Weather Underground and Accuweather have similar predictions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, in effect until 7pm Saturday. If a storm develops, it will be the first winter weather of the season, not including the October snowstorm that left the valley blanketed in over 6 inches of snow.
