Winter Storm to Hit Saucon Valley Friday

A winter storm will make Friday messy in eastern Pennsylvania, but the worst of it is forecast to hit New England.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm will bring snow, sleet and rain to the Hellertown area Friday into early Saturday morning, and a Winter Storm Watch for 4 to 10 inches of snow remains in effect. More Snow Expected Saturday, Dec. 29

Snow is the forecast again and we could get a few inches on Saturday.

So far this week, we had a white Christmas and a post-Christmas snow and ice storm that led to a tragic accident on Interstate 78. While today will be sunny, snow is in the forecast again with a few inches or more expected Saturday. The National Weather Service says hazardous travel should develop for much of eastern Pennsylvania Saturday morning as snow begins falling around daybreak or shortly after that. Snowfall could range from 2 to 5 inches ending in the afternoon or evening. Daytime temperatures will hover in the low to mid 30s. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high of 34.

LV Red Cross Issues Home Heating Warning

Safety tips for home heating are included.

Home heating fires are the agency’s greatest concern as the Lehigh Valley braces for an ice storm. “With the temperatures below freezing and people forced to stay inside for extended periods of time, there’s a higher likelihood that people may turn to unsafe alternative heating,” Cordelia E. Miller, emergency services director of the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, was quoted as saying. The Red Cross press release included the following home heating safety tips:

Things to Do if the Power Goes Out

Power outages are possible as a result of the winter storm bearing down on the region.

Power outages are possible as a major storm dumps snow and ice on the Lehigh Valley today and Wednesday. The number that should be used to report downed power lines and other emergencies to PPL is 1-800-DIAL-PPL (1-800-342-5775). Then press 1 for “electrical emergency.” PPL recommends that residents check with neighbors to see if they have power. Also check your breakers and fuses. PPL offers the following safety instructions on its website: Stay warm If you have computer access, PPL's website shows a map of power outages at http://www.pplelectric.com/Outage+Center.
