Hurricane Sandy Leaves Behind Spotty Cell Phone, Internet Connections

U.S. and local telecom networks, including RCN, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint, are experiencing widespread disruptions in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The editor of Nazareth Patch has no Hurricane Sandy war stories. The roof is intact, the shingles are in place, the branches are right where they're supposed to be, and the power -- although it flickered like a strobe light -- refused to give way. I was prepared to give my victory speech. But then Sandy delivered a cheap shot: both of my AT&T-powered cell phones are useless. Well played, Sandy. Well played. I tried taking to the Internet to find out why I had lost the ability to make and receive phone calls -- and why I could only send text messages if I contorted my body juuuuust right. Verizon Expands Lehigh Valley 4G Network

Lehigh Valley Verizon customers will have access to 4G LTE speeds in more places as part of expansion project.

  Verizon Wireless customers in the Lehigh Valley will have access to 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) speeds in more places as a result of the company's expanded 4G LTE network in 32 markets. Verizon also launched coverage in 33 new markets on July 19.   Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE network in the Philadelphia market in December 2010 and, since that time, has aggressively filled in and expanded the network in the Philadelphia vicinity and across central and eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. This latest expansion enhances 4G LTE coverage in Allentown and surrounding areas, including Trexlertown, and in Easton and Phillipsburg.
