A plan to replace paper towels with electric hand dryers in two park restrooms was embraced by Lower Saucon Township Council Sept. 5.
The cost of paper towels may seem trivial, but it adds up. That was the message delivered to Lower Saucon Township Council by manager Jack Cahalan Sept. 5. Cahalan said he's recommending that the disposable paper towels currently used in two public park restrooms--at Town Hall Park and Southeastern Park--be replaced with electric hand dryers. “We spend about $500 a year on paper towels and a lot of it is wasted by the kids using the recreation programs,” he said. When paper towels are tossed around the restrooms, staff have to spend time picking them up and properly disposing of them, he explained. Woman Arrested for DUI at Countryside Lane and Easton Road On Aug. 4 at 2:04am police say Donna Marie Pinkowicz, of the 3400 block of Lower Saucon Road, Lower Saucon Township, was stopped for a traffic infraction at Countryside Lane and Easton Road. Police said in a press release that Pinkowicz was found to be under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 percent. Pinkowicz has been charged with DUI, they added. Lower Saucon Township police announced Tuesday that they are investigating the theft of several picnic tables from Town Hall Park.
It's not the right time of year for picknicking, but that didn't stop a band of thieves from removing several red picnic tables from Town Hall Park, Lower Saucon Township police announced Tuesday. According to a police department press release, the three picnic tables were stolen sometime between 4pm on Dec. 12 and 6am on Dec. 13. Police gave the following description of the suspects: "The actors are white males, (in their) late teens (or) early 20s. They were seen operating a black Chevy pickup, a blue or faded green Dodge (caravan) and an unknown (type of) pickup." The second annual Town Hall Cyclocross race was held Oct. 8 at Town Hall Park in Lower Saucon Township. The event was organized by Lamprey Systems Cycling.
More than 200 cyclists descended on Lower Saucon Township's Town Hall Park Oct. 8, for the second annual Town Hall Cyclocross Race organized by Bethlehem's Lamprey Systems Cycling team, which was sponsored by St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network. This year's race benefited both Saucon Valley Relay for Life and HCM Foundation, both of which support cancer patients, survivors and families. According to organizer Chris Garges, "the event raised $1,200 for local charities with nearly $650 raised for Saucon Valley Relay for Life and $550 raised for the HCM Foundation, which was founded by an Emmaus graduate who lost his father to cancer at a young age."
