Borough Council Nixes Raised Crosswalk Plan

Hellertown Borough Council voted Sept. 17 to permit the owner of a home near Dimmick Park to install sidewalks around it instead of paying for a raised crosswalk on Durham Street.

An unusual aspect of a pedestrian access agreement that was forged between Hellertown Borough and Silver Creek Country Club earlier this year was made null and void by borough council Sept. 17. Property owner Kevin Lott approached council about the agreement, which he said would present him with a hardship. The agreement stipulated that in lieu of sidewalks around the perimeter of a corner property the country club had subdivided and was selling, a raised crosswalk across Durham Street would have to be installed nearby. Lott was ultimately the buyer of the property at 621 Durham Street that was the focus of discussions about whether the sidewalks should be required. He told council he has had second thoughts about purchasing the historic …

Council: Club to Pay for Raised Crosswalk Instead of Sidewalks

Representatives for Silver Creek Country Club won a conditional waiver for sidewalk installation from Hellertown Borough Council March 5. According to the agreement reached, the club will instead fund installation of a raised crosswalk on Durham Street.

Silver Creek Country Club most likely won't be required to install sidewalks along a piece of subdivided property it owns at Depot and Durham streets in Hellertown. However, according to an agreement reached after a lengthy discussion at Borough Council's March 5 meeting, the club will instead fund the installation of a raised crosswalk on Durham Street in the vicinity of the Hellertown Pool. The unusual trade was agreed to after representatives for the country club argued that the cost of installing sidewalks along the perimeter of the subdivided parcel--which Silver Creek is in the process of selling--would be exorbitant. "We are a not-for-profit," said general manager Casey Counsellor. "We're just trying to ask for consideration." …

Country Club Will Talk to Council about Sidewalk Plan

Hellertown Borough Council solicitor Michael Corriere reported Jan. 17 that Silver Creek Country Club wants to talk to council about a requirement that it install sidewalk along Durham Street in the borough.

Representatives from Silver Creek Country Club want to talk to Hellertown Borough Council about a mandate to install sidewalk along part of their property in the borough. The mandate was delivered in October, after council approved a subdivision plan for a small section of the country club property that abuts Durham and Depot streets. The subdivided parcel includes an old stone home and its separation from the main country club property will allow for its sale in the future. The club had sought a deferral of the ordinance-mandated sidewalk requirement, which was denied. On Jan. 17, council members were told by solicitor Michael Corriere that an attorney for the country club wishes to address them in early February. Corriere said a concern …
