Shopping Center Still Looking to Reopen Anchors

Saucon Valley Square representatives say they may have word on a new tenant for the former Pathmark store in Lower Saucon Township later this month.

Thirteen years ago, more than 200 people lined up early one Saturday morning to enter the new Super Fresh supermarket in Lower Saucon Township. Five days later, in December 1998, Hoyts Saucon Valley Cinema 10 opened, with the first 100 customers in line getting free t-shirts and popcorn. It was the late 1990s, the U.S. economy was booming, and both of these properties were located in the Saucon Valley Square shopping center on Route 378 in Lower Saucon Township. Today, both sit empty, deteriorating in a sour national business environment that has hit home, even in relatively affluent areas such as the Saucon Valley. It’s a freaky situation, considering that the average household income within a mile of Saucon Valley Square is $113,739, …

What Do You Wish Were Here?

The Pathmark supermarket on Route 378 in Lower Saucon Township closed in the spring of 2011.

When interviewed in the spring, a representative for the company that leases space in the Saucon Valley Square shopping center indicated that another supermarket is likely to fill the space left vacant when Pathmark closed. Are you in favor of another supermarket opening at this location? If so, which one would you prefer?

Former Pathmark Store Likely to Remain a Supermarket

But it may take some time for a new tenant to move into the anchor store in Lower Saucon Township's Saucon Valley Square shopping center.

The Pathmark supermarket in the Saucon Valley Square shopping center on Route 378 may be gone, but it's likely that the space it occupied will next be occupied by another supermarket. When exactly that might be is still up in the air, according to Gregory Jones of Equity Retail Brokers, who handles leasing agreements for the Lower Saucon Township shopping center that is also home to small businesses such as Subway, Casa Mia Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant and Saucon Square Cleaners. “We're working on some things,” Jones said in a telephone interview Monday. “A grocery store is the path of least resistance. It would be very expensive to retool that space.” Which grocery chain might occupy the former Pathmark location is still unknown, he said…

Wife Attacked Fleeing Husband, Kicked Officer, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police allege that Jennifer Lynn Bauer, of Hellertown, attempted to strike her husband's vehicle while their children were inside it.

A verbal argument between a husband and wife from Hellertown spun out of control and escalated to the point where a police officer was kicked by the woman, Lower Saucon Township police said in a press release Thursday. On April 5 at 8:10pm, officers were dispatched to the Creekside Marketplace shopping center at 1880 Leithsville Road after receiving a report of "a wife attacking her husband," the release said. Prior to that, and following an argument, police say Jason Bauer left the residence he and his wife, Jennifer Lynn Bauer, 28, share at 127 Main St., Hellertown. When he left he took their children with them, police added. "Jason Bauer...took them to the shopping center, only to discover that on the way there (Jennifer Bauer) was …
