Sign Up for Chili Festival at the S.V. Farmers' Market

The Saucon Valley Farmers' Market's annual Chili Festival will be held Sunday, June 2.

Love chili? Then mark your calendars for the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market's annual Chili Festival, which will be held this year on Sunday, June 2 at the market in Water Street Park, Hellertown. To register to compete in the festival, call organizer George Sauerwine at 610-360-4105. The chili contest is free to enter, but space is limited. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will be an entrance fee to taste and vote on the chili submissions. The farmers' market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Sunday from May through November.

Farmers' Market Has More Than 40 Vendors This Year

From May through November, the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hellertown's Water Street Park, just off the Saucon Rail Trail.

Did you know that the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market is now one of the biggest farmers' market in the Lehigh Valley? The popular market—which is open each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (May through November) in Hellertown's Water Street Park —has grown in size to include more than 40 vendors this year, including a number of new vendors. According to a SVFM brochure, this year's vendors include: Apple Ridge Farm, Aunt Jack's Baking, BabaNonna LLC, Bechdolt Orchards, Best in Show Barkery, Blue Mountain Vineyards, Bobwhite Acres, Conner's Sawmill, Debbie's Kitchen, Delightfully Irrational Desserts, Drizzle, Dunn's Fruit Farm, Eat This Yum, Earth's Phocas, Epic Acre Farm, Flint Hill Farm, The Garden of Easton/Blue Mountain Farms, Glenn & Elly's…

Water Street Park Improvements Discussed

Hellertown Borough Council discussed last week a proposed plan to upgrade the popular borough recreation area.

Improvements to Hellertown's Water Street Park were part of a discussion had by Borough Council Feb. 19. The discussion followed a Feb. 12 Hellertown Planning Commission detailed review of the proposed plan to upgrade the popular recreation area, which is bordered by the Saucon Rail Trail. The park also hosts the seasonal Saucon Valley Farmers' Market, which from May through November attracts hundreds of visitors each Sunday. Creating additional space for the market's vendors and visitors--as well as room for future expansion--was part of the council discussion. Hellertown mayor and farmers' market volunteer Richard Fluck said the SVFM currently has 46 vendors, and he told the planning commission it is now the second biggest weekly farmers…

Market to Host 'American Gothic' Look-a-Like Contest

The Saucon Valley Farmers' Market will host the contest on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Has anyone ever said you have a dour demeanor? Are you the type of person who prefers to smile on the inside? If so, you should consider entering the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market's upcoming "American Gothic" look-a-like contest on Oct. 28. The contest is based upon the famous 1930 painting by American artist Grant Wood, in which a farmer and his daughter stand in front of their Carpenter Gothic home in Eldon, Iowa. The contest is free to enter and pre-registration is not required. Judging will take place at 11:30am and prizes will be awarded. Green Globes Will Be Celebrated at 'Cabbage Fest'

The Saucon Valley Farmers' Market in Hellertown will host a "Cabbage Fest" on Sunday, Oct. 14.
