Shoppes at Sands Adding Famous Footwear, Spa, Bakery, Cardinal Camera

A spa, a bakery and cafe and two other stores plan to open at the upscale Sands Casino mall by summer.

  The Shoppes at Sands upscale mall in south Bethlehem will be getting two more stores, a bakery and café, and a spa by the summer, according to Sands representatives. There currently are 21 stores inside the upscale shopping center, which opened in November 2011 next door to the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. The Shoppes at Sands are expected to host at least 30 stores when it is fully leased. The Shoppes at Sands are open Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The shopping center's website features a description of each store and notes special deals and discounts for some of them.

Under Armour Employee Stole $2,300, Police Say

Nina Maria Magan, 22, of Lower Saucon Township, allegedly stole more than $2,300 while working as an assistant manager in the Under Armour store in The Shoppes at Sands in Bethlehem.

An assistant manager at the Under Armour store in the mall at the Sands Bethlehem casino has admitted to stealing more than $2,300 from the store "to pay her bills," court records say. Nina Maria Magan, 22, of the 2100 block of Schwab Avenue in the Steel City section of Lower Saucon Township, was charged Friday with theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Her alleged actions, which occurred between Dec. 27 and Friday, were captured on the store’s surveillance video, according to a criminal complaint filed by Bethlehem Police Officer Jeffrey Fehr. The complaint says Magan took merchandise from store shelves and returned it for store gift cards, then converted the gift cards into cash she took from the register and kept for herself…

Sands Leads Pa. Casinos in Table Games Revenue

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem brought in $146 million in gross revenue from table games in 2012 -- the highest amount of any casino in Pennsylvania.

  The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem made more money on table games than any other casino in the state in 2012, according to a report issued Wednesday by the Pa. Gaming Control Board. The South Bethlehem casino brought in more than $146 million in gross revenue from table games, far more than the state’s largest casino, the Parx in Bensalem, which grossed nearly $110 million. Sands table games play increased by $40 million – nearly 38 percent – in 2012. The Sands grossed $291 million from slots machine play in 2012, according to a Gaming Control Board report issued earlier this month. Grunge Rockers Alice In Chains Coming to Sands

Set to release fifth album soon, Alice In Chains will appear at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center on May 7.

  Seattle grunge rockers Alice In Chains has been booked at play a show at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center on Tuesday May 7 at 7 p.m., Vision Entertainment has announced. The band is set to release its fifth studio album – its first since 2009 – later this year. A new single, “Hollow,” was released in December, while the music video (attached to this story) was released on Thursday. Alice In Chains rose to popularity in the early 90’s with the release of their debut album Face Lift. The album sold over a half-million copies and earned them a Grammy nomination for the song “Man in the Box.” The band’s sophomore album, Dirt sold over 3 million copies and eventually went to double-platinum status. Sands Casino Expansion Approved by Gaming Board

The approval means Sands Bethlehem Casino Resort can add 31 new table games, giving it more table games than any other casino in Pennsylvania. More than 100 new jobs are anticipated.

The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem received approval last month to add 31 new table games, giving it the most table games of any casino in the state, according to a report in The Express-Times. The casino would expand its gaming floor by 2,600 square feet and move 837 slot machines to make way for the extra table games, according to the story. When the renovations are done, the Sands will have 183 table games. The new games will mean 107 new jobs, a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board spokesman told the newspaper. With that, Northampton Community College has already announced a new information session for its Casino Training Program. Bus Driver Headed to Sands to be Cited in Route 378 Crash

No one was injured in the bus crash on Route 378 on Saturday, Lower Saucon police say. Citations do not indicate a conviction.

  A bus driver carrying about 40 passengers to the Sands Casino will be cited for reckless driving following an accident shortly before noon Saturday on Route 378, Lower Saucon police said. Russell Gray, of Philadelphia, will be charged by mail with reckless driving and driving at an unsafe speed. According to police, Gray was driving a charter bus north on Route 378, at Koeler Drive, when he rear-ended two SUVs. In all, five vehicles were involved in the crash.  No one was injured.

Cheap Trick Coming to Sands Event Center

Classic hard rockers Cheap Trick are scheduled to play the Sands Nov. 24. Tickets are now on sale.

Highly influential and oft-covered classic hard rock band Cheap Trick has been scheduled to play a concert at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center on Nov. 24, Vision Entertainment Group announced last week. Best known for hits like “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender” and the late '80s lighter-waving favorite, “The Flame,” the hard-touring band is this year celebrating the 35th anniversary of its self-titled first album. Pa. Casino Revenue Up Slightly in September

Bethlehem's Sands Casino remains one of the state's most successful gaming operations with revenue up more than 3 percent in September.

September gross revenue from slot machines at the 11 operating casinos was slightly higher this year at $200,465,589 than the $200,148,304 in gross revenue generated in September 2011, a difference of less than 1 percent, according to a Pa. Gaming Control Board report released this week. The Sands Casino in Bethlehem remains one of the state's most successful gaming operations in terms of monthly revenue. Revenue there was up more than 3 percent in September. Tax revenue in September of this year was $108,338,974.  In a comparison of just the 10 casinos operating in September 2012 that were also open for the full month of September 2011, revenue was 2 percent lower this year. I do not get it. How is this fun for anyone but the casino. I would love to see a poll to see the average $ spent vs that person's annual gross income. My guess is that most of the people spending their $ is middle to low income. Pa. Casino Revenue Up in August

Revenue at Pennsylvania's 11 casinos - including the Sands in Bethlehem - is up more than 5 percent over August 2011

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported on its web site that August gross revenue at the 11 operating casinos was $210,584,315, a figure 5.7 percent higher than gross revenue from slots in August 2011.  For the 10 casinos that were open for the full month of August in both 2011 and 2012, there was also an increase in slot machine gross revenue of 3.7 percent.  That comparison does not include the Valley Forge Casino Resort which opened at the end of March 2012. Tax revenue to the Commonwealth this August totaled $113,558,137.
