PennDOT announced Friday that part of Limeport Pike in Upper Saucon Township will be subject to daytime closures through early June, as crews replace a water main.
A water main replacement project in Upper Saucon Township will result in periodic daytime closures of a busy road near Route 309 through early June, PennDOT announced Friday. While Limeport Pike is closed between Lanark and West Saucon Valley roads, traffic will be detoured onto those thoroughfares, PennDOT said. The existing three-inch water main will be replaced with an eight-inch main, according to the news release. For more information about the project, motorists should visit www.uppersaucon.org or contact the Upper Saucon Township Water Department at (610) 694-0829. The estimated completion date for the work is June 6, 2013.

The Route 412 closure that was originally planned for Wednesday morning has been confirmed for Thursday, Dec. 13, the Borough of Hellertown has announced. The 600 block of Main Street in downtown Hellertown will be closed between Water and Penn streets from approximately 9am to 1pm so a temporary bridge can be placed over the culvert that diverts the Silver Creek underneath the roadway in that block. A temporary bridge is needed because Central Jersey Trucking and Rigging will be moving a 500,000-pound piece of equipment south on Route 412 from the Commerce Industrial Park in Bethlehem--a move that has been approved by PennDOT. During the move, both borough and state police will assist with traffic control in the area. Traffic on Route 412…

At a hastily organized Sept. 21 meeting, Lower Saucon Township officials had harsh words for PennDOT representatives, who they said failed to adequately warn them of Applebutter Road's closure pursuant to a major bridge repair project in Bethlehem.
The current rehabilitation of the Shimersville Road bridge across the Saucon Creek in Bethlehem has led to the temporary closure of Applebutter Road in Lower Saucon Township, and township officials are not happy about the notification process Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) officials undertook prior to the road's closure Sept. 16. At a hastily organized meeting at Lower Saucon Town Hall Sept. 21, Lower Saucon council members, State Rep. Bob Freeman (D-136), representatives for IESI Bethlehem Landfill and others criticized PennDOT officials present at the meeting for doing little besides placing a display board announcing the project and highlighting Applebutter Road's closure in the town hall lobby in the spring of 2010…

Maybe this will teach the township a lesson about not keeping the residents in the dark. Lower Saucon township is not any better than Penn Dot when it comes to informing the public about many things. The township has a web site that is under utilized. In the past, when there have been road closures, the media such as Patch has reported it, but the there was no info on the township web site. The …   more ›
