Should Pennsylvania Secede from the United States?

A petition on the official White House website, We The People, has more than 1,000 signatures so far.

The President won a decisive victory but there are still many disgruntled Americans who are not happy with the path Barack Obama has chosen and they want their home states to secede. Petitions from more than 30 states have been posted on the White House's 'We The People' website--where individuals can post petitions and voice concerns. If a petition gets more than 25,000 electronic signatures then the White House will respond. A petition for Pennsylvania reads: "Peacefully grant the State of Pennsylvania to withdraw from the United States of America and create a NEW government." On Tuesday morning, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. there were 1,528 signatures.  Texas leads the effort with 63,910 signatures. Lousiana also has more than 25,000. Of course …

Nor'easter Forecast for Wednesday, Thursday

The National Weather Service now calls a storm that's forecast for Wednesday 'significant.'

Parts of Pennsylvania were still without power as temperatures took a decidedly colder turn the last two nights--and now those same areas face the prospect of a major Nor'easter striking Wednesday into Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the tri-state area, and its predictions have grown more dire in recent days. The Eastern Pennsylvania Weather Authority blog says that locally the Lehigh Valley could see as much as four inches of snow.  "A significant coastal storm will likely impact the tri-state region Wednesday and Thursday," the service said Monday. "Confidence continues to increase that strong, gusty winds...rain/wintry precipitation...coastal flooding and additional beach erosion will …

Simmons Releases Second Attack Ad Against Deely

A new round of campaign ads shows Democratic candidate Kevin Deely as a puppet, and incumbent state Rep. Justin Simmons touting a 'promise' to his constituents.

In the 131st legislative district, a new round of campaign ads is hitting the airwaves courtesy of the Friends of Rep. Justin Simmons.  The new ads are the latest in a series of "offense" and "defense" ads run by the Simmons campaign. The first shows Democratic challenger Kevin Deely as a cartoon while talking about his time as a teachers union representative. The second ad shows state Rep. Justin Simmons (R-131) speaking about his record in the House of Representatives.  "This television advertising will allow me to communicate that message in a broader manner," Simmons said in a statement released early Wednesday. The first of the original two ads shows Simmons talking about his record on education in Harrisburg, while the second shows a…

Simmons Campaign Goes on Attack in New Campaign Ads

A new round of ads touts state Rep. Justin Simmons' education record and claims opponent Kevin Deely will hurt taxpayers if elected.

A recent round of television ads is making waves as the race for the 131st district state House seat kicks into high gear.  Two different ads have been released by Rep. Justin Simmons (R-131) in his re-election effort. Described in articles as "offense" and "defense" ads, one shows Simmons talking about his record on education in Harrisburg while the other shows a smoking $100 bill while a voiceover talks about challenger Kevin Deely's time as a teachers union representative. Deely, a Democrat, is a 10th grade teacher in the Easton Area School District and former president of the teachers union. The Simmons/Deely race has been named a "race to watch" in a recent Politics PA article. The 131st district includes part of Lower Saucon Township…
