The Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be performed at Northampton Community College.
Angels in America: The Millennium Approaches, by Tony Kushner, will be staged April 11-13 at 7:30pm and April 14 at 3pm at Northampton Community College's Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall (Main Campus), 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem, the college announced in a press release. Described as a "gay fantasia on national themes," the play won a Pulitzer Prize in 1993. Angels in America will be directed by William Mutimer, NCC assistant professor of communication/theatre. Jimmy Santiago Baca, who learned to read and write in prison, has transformed himself into an internationally acclaimed author. He will read at NCC's Bethlehem campus on April 11.
Northampton Community College (NCC) has announced that its annual Len Roberts Poetry Day will be held Thursday, April 11 from 11am to noon on its Main Campus in the Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem. The event honors the memory of the late poet and NCC professor Len Roberts. The highlight of this year's Poetry Day will be a visit by poet Jimmy Santiago Baca. Baca, who learned to read and write in prison, has transformed himself into an internationally acclaimed author, activist, motivator, teacher and "poet of the people," the school said in a press release. The Pa. Superior Court will hold sessions at Northampton Community College on Tuesday and Wednesday
For the first time in its history, the Pennsylvania Superior Court will be sitting in the Lehigh Valley at an institution of higher education. The special session of argument court will take place on February 26 and 27 beginning at 9 a.m. at Northampton Community College, Kopecek Hall, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. Judges Jack A. Panella, presiding judge; Cheryl Lynn Allen, and William H. Platt will serve on the panel. This court session will provide an unusual opportunity for the public to witness court in action. The session will open with a special tribute to veterans. NCC will offer a free March 7 program on how individuals can protect themselves from cyber security threats
Northampton Community College will host a program on cyber security on Thursday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in Room 220 of the College Center at 3835 Green Pond Road in Bethlehem. The program is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s national Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign, “Stop.Think.Connect.” It will focus on how individuals and entire communities can protect themselves against growing cyber threats. The session will include remarks from two cyber security experts and will cover both general and technical aspects of cyber security. A Saucon Valley High School student will compete in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City in April, after winning an auto competition at Northampton Community College Feb. 16. Ethan Gaither, who attends SVHS and Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, won the NCC competition with a partner, Vo-Tech student Aron Nemes. Gaither, Nemes and their two instructors will all attend the national competition.

Linny Fowler died Monday at the age of 73, according to reports.
Philanthropist Linny Fowler died Monday of natural causes, according to a report in The Morning Call. She was 73. UPS heiress Fowler was known locally for giving generously to the arts and to the poor. Several buildings in the Lehigh Valley are named in her honor, including the Fowler Family South Side Center of Northampton Community College in Bethlehem. She also was a major benefactor of ArtsQuest. NCC spokesman Heidi Butler said, "As the news traveled across campus this afternoon, there was shock and sadness, followed by spontaneous sharing of memories, not only of how generous Linny was, but also of how down-to-earth she was and about the personal interest she took in students and the encouragement she gave them.
