Lower Saucon Township Police Blotter: Nov. 3, 2012

The following information was supplied by the Lower Saucon Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Woman Arrested for DUI at Route 378 and Seidersville Road On Oct. 21 at 1:52am police say Iris N. West, of the 1500 block of Bayberry Lane, Bethlehem, attracted an officer's attention by being stopped beyond the stop line at the intersection of Route 378 and Seidersville Road. Police said in a press release that West was stopped far enough beyond the line that her vehicle represented "a hazard to northbound traffic on Route 378." After West was stopped, police said she failed field sobriety tests and was determined to have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .14 percent at the Bethlehem DUI Center. Police: Car Stolen on Mockingbird Hill Road

Lower Saucon Township Police say a red Dodge Neon was stolen from 3880 Mockingbird Hill Road during the overnight hours of Aug. 11. The car was later recovered.

Lower Saucon Township Police announced Sunday that they are investigating the theft of a car from a home on Mockingbird Hill Road. In a press release, police said the red Dodge Neon was taken sometime during the overnight hours of Aug. 11. The man believed to have taken the car "was described as a late twenties male with short hair," police said. Police identified the vehicle's owner as Roland Howells, 3880 Mockingbird Hill Road. The Neon was later found abandoned in another part of Lower Saucon Township. Anyone with information about the theft of the car is asked to contact the Lower Saucon Police Department at 610-317-6110.

'Dahlia Lady' Plans Fundraiser for Local Food Bank

Delightful Dahlias on Mockingbird Hill Road will host a fundraiser this Sunday to benefit the Hellertown Area Ministerium Community Food Bank.

Some of the flowering plants in Shirlene Moser’s gardens have been lovingly tended for more than 100 years. The "Dahlia Lady," as she is affectionately known, began gardening alongside her grandmother as a child, on the family farm she later inherited, and upon which she and her husband now reside. From July until the first frost, more than 100 varieties of dahlias bloom in four separate gardens spread across one-and-a-half acres of their Lower Saucon Township property. Moser considers her little Garden of Eden (which she calls “Delightful Dahlias”) a blessing, and she uses it as a way to give back to the community. She sells dahlia tubers (roots) in the spring and cut flowers and arrangements during the blooming season. All proceeds …

Photos of the Day: Old Stone Wall

Some walls are so unique they're like works of art.

If you're a lover of old stone walls, take a drive up Mockingbird Hill Road in Lower Saucon, where this remarkable structure is located (just south of Reilly Lane on the right as you're heading uphill). Judging from its appearance, it was built by hand many moons ago. And thanks to the challenging topography of the hillside on which it's located, the wall has a sinewy, almost snakelike quality to its construction. Each stone has weathered in place, and some parts of the wall sport green moss coverings. Surrounding the structure are dense foliage and tall trees which contribute to the "lost in time" atmosphere of the area.
