Need Help With a Car Seat in L. Saucon? Call the Police

If you're a resident, the Lower Saucon Township Police Department will help you install a car seat or double check one that's already installed, to make sure it's correctly adjusted.

It's perhaps a little-known fact that—as part of their sworn oath to protect and serve—Lower Saucon Township police provide free assistance to residents who need help with installing child safety seats in vehicles, township councilman David Willard said at council's May 1 meeting. Willard said he recently installed a car seat in his vehicle for his grandson, but later decided to have a Lower Saucon police officer check to make sure it had been installed properly and according to specifications. Officer Kyle Haggerty checked the child safety seat and made several adjustments to it, in order to maximize its safety, Willard said. 119 Charged With DUI in Lower Saucon in 2012: Report

The statistic is found in the Lower Saucon Township Police Department's 2012 annual report, which was released this month.

Although Lower Saucon Township Police charged 119 motorists with driving under the influence and 65 individuals with drug law violations in 2012, that number combined "dropped slightly" from the previous year, police said in their annual report. In fact, in 2011 township police charged 124 people with DUI and 78 with drug law violations.  The 2012 Lower Saucon Township Police Department annual report also included the following crime statistics: In terms of DUI/alcohol enforcement, and in conjunction with the Hellertown and Freemansburg police departments, police said the following proactive measures were taken under the direction of DUI Coordinator Robert Winters:

L. Saucon PD Welcomes New Part-Time Patrolman

Daniel Bencsics was recently sworn-in as a Part-Time Police Patrolman with the Lower Saucon Township Police Department.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 Daniel Bencsics was sworn-in as a Part-Time Police Patrolman with the Lower Saucon Township Police Department. His mother, grandmother and girlfriend were in attendance as well as numerous other township police officers and other employees.  Daniel, who is a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Mansfield University of PA and completed his Act 120 training at Allentown Police Academy. He is currently a Deputy Sheriff with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department and formerly completed an internship for Lehigh County Probation. -The information above was provided by the Lower Saucon Township Police Department.

Highest Paid in Lower Saucon Twp: Manager, Police Chief

Information about Lower Saucon Township's highest-paid employees was revealed by a recent Right-to-Know request.

Are you curious to know how much Lower Saucon Township employees make? If you pay municipal taxes as a resident or business owner, the answer to that question is most likely "yes." And you're in luck, because a recent Right-to-Know request by Lehigh Valley Live resulted in the release of a list of township employees' 2012 W-2 earnings. According to that list, the township's manager, Jack Cahalan, and its chief of police, Guy Lesser, were the two highest paid employees last year, earning $84,387.34 and $83,641.32 respectively. In addition to Lesser, police officers make up the rest of the Top 10, which is not unusual given the fact that local police often earn more than their base salaries by working overtime. Since this is showing what the police officers make utilizing over time, what is the base salary for these guys. These numbers make it look like they make a lot, but not if the overtime is what is boosting their pay. And if they have to work hours and hours of overtime to make these wages, does that say we are spreading them too thin, working them longer then they should in an already stressful …   more ›

Woman Arrested for DUI After Officer Notices Malfunctioning Headlight On Jan. 1 at 3:04am police say an officer who was assisting with a traffic stop on Route 378 observed a vehicle that was traveling northbound with a malfunctioning headlight. Police said in a press release that the vehicle was stopped and its driver identified as Cynthia Camacho, of the first block of West Central Avenue, Bangor. According to police, it was determined that Camacho had been drinking and she was administered field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed. Man Arrested for DUI on Route 378 Near Koehler Drive On Sept. 14 at 12:53am police say Dylan Perkins, of the 1800 block of Easton Avenue, Bethlehem, was stopped on Route 378 near Koehler Drive for faulty equipment on his vehicle. In a press release police said Perkins displayed alcohol-related signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for DUI, as well as possession of a non-prescribed narcotic. A passenger in Perkins' vehicle--identified as Andrew Weber, of the 300 block of East Fairview Street, Bethlehem--was also arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said. Man Charged With DUI on Route 412 On Oct. 17 at 11:06pm police say Dale Mahoney, of the 5900 block of Hawk Road, Springfield Township, was stopped on Route 412 for speeding and erratic driving. Police said in a press release that Mahoney was found to be under the influence of marijuana. He was charged with DUI and careless driving, they added. Police Investigating Attempted Burglary on Apple Street On Nov. 2 police say a homeowner in the 2300 block of Apple Street reported an attempted burglary. Lower Saucon Police Welcome New Part-Time Officer

Kyle Bartholomew was sworn in as a part-time patrolman with the Lower Saucon Township Police Department on Sept. 6, 2012.

A graduate of Saucon Valley High School was sworn in as the Lower Saucon Township Police Department's newest part-time patrolman Sept. 6, it was announced in a press release. "Kyle Bartholomew earned a Specialized Diploma in Emergency Services Technology from Northampton Community College and completed his Act 120 training at Montgomery County Community College’s Municipal Police Academy," the release said. "Additionally he has completed the International Police Mountain Bike Association’s Police Cyclist Instructor course and is a certified Police Cyclist Instructor."
