Should DA Morganelli Run for Lieutenant Governor?

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli says he is considering a run for lieutenant governor.

PoliticsPa reports that Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli is considering a run for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania in 2014. Morganelli -- who was the Democratic nominee for attorney general in 2008 -- told PoliticsPa that he still has a "solid" statewide campaign organization in place and $260,000 of campaign money. According to his website: Morganelli was elected district attorney in 1991 at the age of 35. He was re-elected in 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. He served as president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys' Association 1999-2000. So what do you think? Should Morganelli run for lieutenant governor? Tell us in the comments section below.

'Serial Rapist' May Have 3 More Victims

Northampton County DA John Morganelli is seeking victims of a 'serial rapist'

A Bethlehem man who allegedly blamed his sex addiction for the rape of two teens he met on Facebook may be implicated in three more cases, according to a WFMZ report. Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said this week that David Martinez, 20, may have more victims, based on police interviews with Martinez. Since Morganelli's announcement, at least three girls have come forward. Their claims are being investigated. He asked anyone who thinks they were victimized by Martinez to call Bethlehem Police Det. Moses Miller at 610-997-7674 or the DA's office at 610-559-3020. "We do consider him [Martinez] a person of danger and a serial rapist," Morganelli said in a news conference Wednesday. Martinez -- who is in Northampton …

Suicide by Hammer Ruled in Man's Bizarre Death

A Williams Township man died as a result of self-inflicted hammer blows to his head, officials have determined

Michael Muretta struggled for years with mental illness. His struggle reached a horrific end last August when the 47-year-old Williams Township man struck himself in the head with a hammer, causing fatal injuries. That was the conclusion reached by investigators looking into Muretta's death, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said Thursday. At a news conference at his office, Morganelli told reporters that Muretta's history --combined with physical evidence at his home and no evidence of anyone who wished him harm -- will lead the coroner to rule his death a suicide. It's not clear whether Murettta intended to kill himself. The hammer blows may have been a response to the symptoms of the schizophrenia Muretta suffered …

DA to Discuss Williams Township Death

Family members have told a local newspaper that Michael Muretta's death was a suicide.

A Williams Township man whose death was deemed suspicious by police last year committed suicide, said members of his family. That's according to the Morning Call, which spoke to relatives of Michael Muretta Thursday morning, a few hours before the Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli was due to hold a press conference to discuss the case. Muretta, 47, was found severely injured inside his Morgan Hill Road home in August of last year. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At the time, police ruled his death "suspicious." Authorities said wounds to Muretta's body were consistent with a hammer, and investigators seized several tools from the home after his death. Morganelli's news conference is …

DA: Where Garrett Reid Got Heroin Can't Be Determined

Northampton County District Attorney John M. Morganelli says case closed on Garrett Reid heroin overdose case.

The case on Garrett Reid's death is closed. Northampton County District Attorney John M. Morganelli said in a press conference Monday afternoon that Lehigh University and his office have closed the investigation into the death of the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid on Aug. 5. Speaking of Garrett Reid, who died of an accidental heroin overdose in his dorm at Eagles training camp at Lehigh University, Morganelli said his office could not determine whether the heroin that killed Reid was obtained in Northampton County or the Lehigh Valley or whether he had brought it to training camp with him. Morganelli said when Reid, 29, died, he was in possession of 64 needles, 47 syringes and 19 vials of an unknown liquid that was later…

Garrett Reid Found with Steroids

Northampton County District Attorney John M. Morganelli reveals that vials found with Garrett Reid when he died were steroids.

Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, had a large amount of steroids in his room when he died of an accidental heroin overdose this summer. Northampton County District Attorney John M. Morganelli said at a press conference Monday afternoon that Reid, 29, was in possession of vials that contained performance-enhancing steroids. Morganelli said the vials contained four types of anabolic steroids that increase testosterone and build muscles. Reid was working with the Eagles' strength and conditioning team, but Morganelli could not determine whether Reid used the steroids personally or was supplying others. "I have no evidence there was any distribution occurring," Morganelli said. Reid died on Aug. 5 in his dorm…

DA: Minor Incident in Club Led to Deadly Gun Fight

Yolanda Morales, 23, followed confrontation out onto E. Third Street before she was hit by gunshot. Police trying to sort out who is responsible for Bethlehem woman's death.

A chaotic and deadly gun battle on E. Third Street apparently began with a minor confrontation between two groups of people who did not know each other before Saturday night, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli. By the time it ended, about 30 bullets had been fired, a young woman was dead and five men were wounded – one perhaps seriously enough to be paralyzed, according to the DA, who held a news conference Monday to explain what law enforcement knows about the shootout outside of the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society that claimed the life of Yolanda Morales. Morales, 23, of 1249 Randolf Road, Bethlehem, died of a gunshot wound to her body, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim, who ruled the …

Former Northampton County Solicitor Anthony J. Martino faces charges after a grand jury concluded that he committed thefts and theft-related offenses while working as an attorney in Bangor. Andy Reid's Son Died of Accidental Heroin Overdose, DA Says

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli says the oldest son of Eagles football coach Andy Reid died of an accidental heroin overdose at Lehigh University in August.

The oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid died of an accidental heroin overdose but "the investigation isn't completely over," the Northampton County district attorney announced Thursday. District Attorney John M. Morganelli said investigators want to talk to the last two people who saw Garrett Reid, 29, alive and also find out who may have supplied him with illegal drugs. "I am confident that Reid's death was the result of a self-injected lethal dose of heroin," Morganelli said. Reid died on Aug. 5. At that time, Morganelli said, Reid was in possession of "a substantial amount of syringes and needles." A used syringe and spoon were also found, he said. The drug paraphernalia discovered in a Reebok gym bag in Reid's apartment …
