Hit-and-Run at Vassi's Involved VW Bug, Police Say

Hellertown Police say they are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred at Vassi's Drive-In, 1666 Main St.

Hellertown Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident they say occurred in the parking lot at Vassi's Drive-In, 1666 Main St., at about 8:09 p.m. April 27. In a news release, police said the victim's vehicle was backed into by another vehicle that was described as blue Volkswagen Beetle.  Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Hellertown Police at 610-838-7040.

Johnston Avenue Break-In Under Investigation

Lower Saucon Township Police say they are investigating a burglary in the 2000 block of Johnston Avenue, which is in Steel City.

Lower Saucon Township Police say they are investigating a break-in that occurred in the 2000 block of Johnston Avenue, in the Steel City section of the township. In a news release, police said the burglary happened sometime between 2pm on March 27 and 8am on March 28. "The suspect broke into the garage and then gained entry into the home," police said. However, no items are believed to have been taken, they added. Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the Lower Saucon Township Police Department at 610-317-6110.

Hellertown Hit-and-Run Accident Under Investigation

Hellertown Police say the Jan. 29 accident occurred at the intersection of Washington and Ackerman streets.

Hellertown Police announced Monday that they are seeking the public's help in identifying the driver responsible for a Jan. 29 hit-and-run accident that occurred at the intersection of Washington and Ackerman streets. In a press release, police said the owner of the car that was struck--a dark grey Nissan Altima--reported that it was parked at that intersection when it was damaged. Police said the car's driver's side fender was reportedly damaged. The accident is believed to have occurred between 10am and 3pm on Jan. 29, 2013, according to authorities. Anyone with information related to the accident is asked to contact the Hellertown Police Department at 610-838-7040.

Hit-and-Run Vehicle Sought in Front Street Incident

Hellertown Police investigating an accident that occurred in the 700 block of Front Street on Jan. 29.

An elderly man was apparently behind the wheel of a vehicle that sideswiped a Pontiac Firebird that was parked in the 700 block of Front Street on Jan. 29, Hellertown Police announced Thursday. In a press release, police said the accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. The motorist responsible for the accident was driving a black van that was "possibly a newer style Chrysler Town and Country or Plymouth Voyager," police said. After striking the Firebird, police say the man in the van continued south on Front Street and made a left onto Walnut Street. FBI, Philly Police Investigating Gov. Corbett's Son-in-Law

Multiple sources say Philadelphia narcotics officer Gerald Gibson has been put on administrative leave.

Last updated 6:20 p.m. Multiple news outlets are reporting that the son-in-law of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police. Sources tell NBC10 that Gerald Gibson, a narcotics officer, has been placed on administrative leave. Police reportedly issued a brief statement about an officer being removed from his duties after a joint investigation by the FBI and Internal Affairs. The officer was not reportedly identified and has not been arrested or charged with a crime. WPVI-TV (6 ABC) reported that Gibson was allegedly found in possession of marked money that was used during a police sting operation. Borough Police Investigating July 7 Burglaries

Hellertown police say two borough homes within blocks of each other were burglarized on the afternoon of July 7.

Hellertown police are seeking help and information from the public as they continue to investigate two residential burglaries that occurred July 7. According to police department press releases issued late last week, officers first responded to a burgled residence in the 1400 block of Main Street at approximately 3:22pm July 7. Police say the home was burglarized sometime between 2pm and 3:10pm, and that jewelry and coins valued at approximately $2,760 were taken from the residence. At 4:45pm July 7, police responded to a home burglary that had occurred in the 1300 block of Easton Road. Police say that home was broken into sometime between 7am and 4:30pm. Police Investigating Hit-and-Run Accident in Front of Liquor Store

Lower Saucon police say an unidentified older woman driving a blue BMW convertible struck two parked cars in the Creekside Marketplace shopping center parking lot June 29.

Lower Saucon Township police say they are investigating a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident that occurred June 29 in front of the Wine and Spirits Store in the Creekside Marketplace shopping center at 1864 Leithsville Road. According to police, at approximately 2:15pm "an older white female operating a blue BMW convertible struck a parked S-10 pick-up while backing out of the front row parking space in front of the Wine and Spirits Store." The driver "then struck a white pick-up which was parked in the handicapped space directly behind her vehicle," police added. Burglary Reported in Society Hill, Lower Saucon

Township police say they are investigating a burglary reported at 1902 Pine Court.

Lower Saucon Township police say they are investigating a burglary reported June 22 at 1902 Pine Court, which is in the Society Hill residential development. At approximately 10:59pm police said they responded to the residence of Kimberly Brinker, where it was reported that a black 55 inch Vizio flatscreen TV, a black 46 inch Vizio flatscreen TV, a compact laptop computer, a Wii gaming system, an Atari gaming system, a VCR and a Comcast cable box were taken. The total value of the items taken is estimated at $2,920, police said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Lower Saucon Township Police Department at 610-317-6110.

Dutch Springs Fatality Under Investigation

Coroner expected to release information on death that happened Saturday.

The Lehigh County Coroner's office is expected to release details today of a fatality stemming from an accident Saturday at Dutch Springs scuba diving and aqua park in Lower Nazareth Township. The 100-foot-deep quarry attracts about 30,000 divers a year. The spring-fed water park is located on Hanoverville Road. The Northampton County Control Center confirmed that emergency responders from Bethlehem Township and Hecktown, along with Colonial Regional Police, were called to the park on Saturday. Dutch Springs officials did not return a call for comment on Sunday. Fatalities connected to accidents at the park include a 50-year-old New Jersey man who died in 2007 and a 47-year-old Luzerne County woman who died in 2009. Two men were …

EXCLUSIVE: Man in Custody After Stockertown Bomb Scare

Emergency crews evacuated three homes early Sunday.

10 a.m. Update: Officials from the Lehigh County Emergency Management Agency have arrived in Stockertown, where police are going through the suspect's vehicle. Northampton County EMA is also working with Stockertown police on the case. At least one EMA responder is using a survey meter, which is a portable unit used to detect radiation. Initial reports indicated the suspect may have had a "dirty" bomb.
