Report: Police Say State Sen. Bob Mensch Had Guns in Car

Longtime lawmaker cited for disorderly conduct following incident on I-78.

State Sen. Bob Mensch, R-24, was pulled over by Pennsylvania State Police on I-78 in Berks County in March after a motorist saw him holding a gun while driving, according to a report published yesterday in The Morning Call. Mensch, a self-described sportsman, was cited for disorderly conduct and is scheduled to appear in district court on May 9. He told police he felt threatened by another motorist but did not point the weapon at anyone. Mensch's district includes Macungie, Emmaus, Easton, Upper Saucon Township, Coopersburg, Williams Township, Salisbury Township, Palmer Township and Springfield Township (Bucks County), among other municipalities.

According to the report he was not cited for the fact that he had guns in the car. He was cited because he allegedly displayed a gun.   more ›

PennDOT Plans Roadwork in Lower Saucon

Potholes will be patched on Route 378 and shoulder work will be performed along I-78 this week.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans for roadwork to be performed in Lower Saucon Township this week. According to a news release issued by PennDOT Friday, maintenance forces will be working on the shoulder of I-78 westbound between Route 412 (Exit 67) and the Lehigh County line Monday until 2pm. On Tuesday, March 29, crews will be working on the I-78 eastbound shoulder between the Lehigh-Northampton county line and Exit 67 from 9am to 2pm, with a lane restriction in place, the release said. On Wednesday and Thursday, PennDOT maintenance forces will be patching potholes on Route 378 between Puggy Lane and Seidersville Road from 9am to 2pm, weather permitting, a separate release stated. Truck Fire Affecting Traffic on I-78 East

The truck that caught fire was reportedly hauling a house.

Emergency broadcast systems are reporting that a serious truck fire is affecting eastbound traffic on I-78, near mile marker 69 in Lower Saucon Township. The truck which has caught fire was reportedly carrying a wide load because it was hauling a house that has also started to burn. Motorists should consider seeking alternate routes if they are planning to travel through the affected area, which is near the Lehigh-Northampton county line.

Township Council Wants Cable Median Barrier on Interstate 78

Report: Police Await Blood Test Results in I-78 Crash that Killed Lower Saucon Man

In December Maxwell Musselman was charged with DUI and careless driving by Lower Saucon police.

A fatal crash on I-78 involving a Lower Saucon Township man is still under investigation, according to a Morning Call report published today. The victim in the Jan. 25 crossover accident, Maxwell Musselman, was 21 years old and lived at 2222 Leithsville Road. The accident occurred when Musselman's vehicle, which was westbound, crossed over the snow-covered median separating opposite lanes of travel on the interstate and entered eastbound traffic. A Bangor woman was injured when Musselman's vehicle collided with hers, and the eastbound lanes of the highway in Lower Saucon Township were closed for hours, as police and emergency crews cleared the scene. PennDOT to Install Barriers on Accident-Prone Stretch of I-78

On the heels of a recent crossover fatality, PennDOT will install barriers, but speed and traffic remain major concerns.

I don't believe interstate highways are designed for a maximum of 65 mph. Their design characteristics far exceed the max posted limits. As example, I -95 from North Carolina to Florida have 70 mph limits. I would suggest perhaps the driving skills of those wishing lower rates are perhaps more of a problem.
