An October 2011 power outage that lasted up to six days in parts of Lower Saucon Township recently prompted officials to seek grant money for battery backup units that will be installed on six local traffic signals. On Nov. 28, the Northampton County Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority voted not to reopen deliberations on a grant application that would have funded two borough police officers' salaries and benefits if approved.
Hellertown will likely lose one of two police officers hired a year ago as a result of the Northampton County Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority's Nov. 28 decision not to reopen the borough's application for $170,000 in 2012 grant funding to pay for the officers' salaries and benefits. The 7-2 decision followed the advice of the authority's solicitor, Scott Allinson, of Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino, who cited the "potential for litigation" in recommending that the application not be reconsidered.
