UPDATED: Dog Found on East High Street; Police Seek Owner

Hellertown police say the dog is a male Shih Tzu.

UPDATE: At 10:30am police reported that the owner of the lost dog had been located. Hellertown police are seeking the owner of a lost dog found on East High Street in the borough on Jan. 12 at approximately 9:10pm. Police announced Friday that the dog is a male Shih Tzu. The dog is black with a little white on the front, they added. Anyone with information about the dog's ownership should contact the police department at 610-838-7040 or the borough at 610-838-7041. As of Jan. 1, stray dogs picked up in Hellertown are no longer taken to the Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Williams Township. Rather, dogs are now temporarily cared for in kennels that have been constructed near the Wagner Grist Mill on West Walnut Street. Information …

Rare Coin Shop Proposal Wins Planners' Approval

A variance by the Hellertown Zoning Hearing Board is still required before owners Karony and Kerry Borger can open the business on East High Street.

Correction: There will NOT be a Hellertown Zoning Hearing Board meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 21. An earlier published version of this story stated that there would be a meeting on that date. The East High Street coin shop variance will be on the ZHB's January 2012 meeting agenda. A proposal for a business that deals in rare coins won the unanimous approval of the Hellertown Planning Commission Dec. 13, but applicants Karony and Kerry Borger must still seek a non-conforming use variance from the Hellertown Zoning Hearing Board before they can open their business at 227 East High Street. The matter will be voted upon at the Zoning Hearing Board's next meeting, which will be held Jan. 18, 2012 at 6:30pm in Hellertown Borough Hall. Planning …
