Police: Heroin Found During Easton Road Vehicle Stop

Hellertown Police say the drug was discovered during a vehicle stop made in the 800 block of Easton Road in August 2012.

In a press release issued last week, Hellertown Police said they have charged a Lower Saucon Township man with possession of heroin as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred last summer. Police said Ryan Joseph Young, 18, of the 2000 block of Glen View Drive, was stopped in the 800 block of Easton Road, Hellertown, for a vehicle equipment violation at 1am on Aug. 12, 2012. At that time, "officers spotted in plain view a packet of heroin in the vehicle's ashtray," police said. Police said Young was arrested for possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, and added that his case is pending court action.

Police Warn About 'Weed Candy'

Police in a nearby county have warned parents about the possible spread of THC-laced candy.

Parents should be on the lookout for "weed candy." A report on WPVI Channel 6's website says that hard candy that looks like a Jolly Rancher but is made with THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, was found recently in Upper Merion Township, near Philadelphia. Upper Merion Police Detective Andrew Rathfon told 6ABC that a parent brought them the candy and asked to have it tested. Parents should look for "unwrapped or re-wrapped candies that look like Jolly Ranchers," the report said. Rathfon also said the candy could be laced with other drugs or hazardous material. It's often made in someone's home, so people who ingest it are "trusting whoever made that substance. It's scary," he said. "It's something parents should know about," said …

Man OD'ed on Heroin, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say Jeffrey Niess, of the 2200 block of Leithsville Road, overdosed on heroin on Oct. 20, 2012.

A township man who allegedly overdosed on heroin in October now faces charges related to the incident, according to the Lower Saucon Police Department. In a press release issued Saturday, police said Jeffrey Niess, of the 2200 block of Leithsville Road, took the drug Oct. 20. At 9:22am officers were dispatched to Niess' home "for an overdose," and he was subsequently taken to St. Luke's University Hospital for treatment, according to the press release. Police said that inside Niess' home they found marijuana, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Niess faces various charges of possession related to the alleged discovery of those items, according to authorities.

Police: High School Students Arrested on Narcotics Charges

Lower Saucon Township police say several Saucon Valley High School students were arrested on charges related to illegal possession of prescription narcotics last week.

In two separate incidents, three Saucon Valley High School students were arrested and charged with offenses related to the illegal possession of prescription narcotics, Lower Saucon Township police announced late Sunday. All of the alleged incidents involved male juvenile students, police said. In the first incident, police say a 16-year-old male student was found to be in possession of a prescription drug not prescribed to him. Police said the student admitted to taking the pills from another person's prescription bottle. Although lab test results are pending, police said the pills are believed to be Percocet. Police: Man Wanted in Maryland Arrested in Borough

Hellertown police arrested Luis Daniel Santana, of Bethlehem, following a traffic stop Sept. 23. A passenger in Santana's vehicle was also arrested at the time.

A Bethlehem man stopped for an alleged traffic violation in Hellertown Sept. 23 turned out to have active warrants for a drug-related offense in Maryland, borough police announced Thursday. According to a police press release, Luis Daniel Santana, 28, of the 900 block of East Sixth Street, was placed under arrest following the traffic stop at 9:59pm. Police said that during a subsequent inventory of Santana's car, marijuana, money, a scale and packaging materials were discovered and seized.  A passenger in Santana's vehicle at the time of the stop, identified as Jessica Ann Maree, 20, of the 3300 block of Airport Road, Hanover Township, at the time admitted to officers that she was in possession of cocaine and turned it over to them, …

Traffic Stop Yielded 15 Bags of Marijuana, Police Say

Hellertown police say 19-year-old Joseph William Shupp, of Bethlehem, and two other men were arrested following the Aug. 29 traffic stop at Main Street and Cherry Lane.

An Aug. 29 traffic stop at Main Street and Cherry Lane yielded 15 bags of marijuana, a scale, extra bags and $305 in cash, Hellertown police said Wednesday in a press release. According to the release, the drugs and other items were seized after officers stopped a vehicle driven by Michael Onuschak, 19, of the 3500 block of Chester Road, Bethlehem, at approximately 8:55pm. Onuschak was pulled over for an alleged equipment violation while turning from Main Street onto Cherry Lane, police said. After making contact with Onuschak and two other occupants of the vehicle, police said officers "detected a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle." Meth Lab Reportedly Busted in Hellertown

A local media source is reporting that the meth lab was discovered when borough police executed search warrants in the 400 and 500 blocks of Main Street Tuesday morning.

UPDATE - 12pm: The Express-Times is reporting that the police bust took place in a third floor apartment above Hero Electric, which is located at 520 Main St., Hellertown. No one else at the address had a connection to the alleged meth lab, police state in the story. Methamphetamine, money and lab equipment were seized, according to the article. An alleged meth lab in downtown Hellertown was discovered when borough police executed several search warrants in the 400 and 500 blocks of Main Street Tuesday morning, according to a report published by Channel 69 on WFMZ.com. In his second year teaching the D.A.R.E. program in the Saucon Valley School District, Officer Medei focuses on the dangers of drugs, alcohol, violence and the importance of good decision making.

Lower Saucon D.A.R.E. Officer Eric Medei has always believed that educating the children of today is the only way to prevent them from making the wrong decisions in the future. Now in his tenth year as a police officer, he has always had a place for children in his life. “I just love working with the kids and that’s why I do it,” he said of his role as the township's D.A.R.E. officer in Saucon Valley schools.
