Driver Struck Mailbox, Sign and Pole, Police Say

Lower Saucon police say an Upper Macungie man became distracted before his vehicle struck several objects along Leithsville Road July 21.

A July 21 accident in the 1900 block of Leithsville Road occurred when the driver of a vehicle allegedly became distracted, Lower Saucon Township police said Monday. According to police, officers were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 11:41pm. At that time, police said they determined that James Carvolth Johnston, 51, of the 1300 block of Warba Drive, Upper Macungie Township, had traveled across the oncoming lane of travel and into a yard. Before striking a PPL pole--where his vehicle came to rest--police said Johnston ran over a mailbox and a PennDOT sign. Anti-Texting Laws May Not Be Enough to Curb Crashes

Recent study suggests that accidents go up after enacting laws.
