Relay for Life of Saucon Valley is an annual event that raises awareness and funding for the American Cancer Society. Saturday's Relay—held in Hellertown—featured remarks by survivors and a 'Victory Lap' around Dimmick Park.
Relay for Life of Saucon Valley, which raises money to help find a cure for cancer, will be held Saturday and Sunday in Hellertown's Dimmick Park. Relay teams will walk laps in the park over a 24-hour period and other special events will take place.
The weekend of Oct. 19-20, 2013 is when the borough will host both the Saucon Valley Spirit Parade and the 4-County Fireman's Parade. A special 'Family Weekend' is being planned around those events.

Grandstand and bandshell projects in Dimmick Park, pool entrance repairs, and streetscape improvements around Borough Hall are transforming and rejuvenating some of Hellertown's most beloved landmarks.
On Monday, Hellertown Borough Council gave engineer Rob Sarnowski permission to 'play hardball' with the company contracted to manufacture the new liner for the borough pool.
Although the company that's contracted to manufacture a new liner for the Hellertown Pool is dragging its feet, engineer Rob Sarnowski of Barry Isett and Associates told Hellertown Borough Council Monday the contract should protect the borough from any financial losses, if, in a worst case scenario, the pool's opening would be delayed. That scenario appears unlikely to occur, because Sarnowski was given permission by council to "play hardball" with the manufacturer in order to get the liner delivered to the borough within the next month. The pool is scheduled to open for its 2013 season on June 15. Renovations to the historic Dimmick Park grandstand and the construction of a covered concert stage are happening in Hellertown this spring.
The 2013 Hellertown-Lower Saucon Little League season began Saturday with the recitation of pledges, a Parade of Teams and opening pitches thrown at Dimmick Park in Hellertown.
It was a mad dash for Easter eggs Saturday morning, as local children participated in the Saucon Valley Jaycees' annual Easter Egg Hunt in Hellertown's Dimmick Park.
