Bodies Will Be on Display at Da Vinci Science Center

The "Bodies Revealed" exhibit will bring carefully preserved whole-body specimens to the Da Vinci Science Center in October

The Da Vinci Science Center and St. Luke’s University Health Network are joining to present a Year of the Human Body project, featuring the world-renowned Bodies Revealed exhibition in the Lehigh Valley. Opening next month at the Da Vinci Center, Bodies Revealed uses real anatomical specimens to take visitors on a three-dimensional tour of the human body: Bodies Revealed will appear at the Da Vinci Science Center from Saturday, October 6 to Sunday, February 10: The Year of the Human Body also will include an appearance of the blockbuster Grossology exhibition at the Da Vinci Science Center from May-Sept. 2013, featured visitor activities at the Center’s Inquiry Island, programs by partner organizations in eastern Pennsylvania, and a public…

Upcoming Events Will Highlight Pediatric Cancer Fight

The Color My World Gala will be held at Allentown's Da Vinci Science Center on Sept. 6 in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. "Dining for a Difference" at Grille 3501 in Allentown will also benefit the organization from Sept. 10-22.

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of that the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) will hold its fourth annual Color My World Gala on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown. This year’s gala will feature a silent auction (including items such as a trip to Disney World) and food donated by Sagra Catering of Hellertown. A highlight of the night will be a live auction of artwork created by children battling pediatric cancer. Jason Houser of Houser Auctioneers and Samantha Layne of 99.9 The Hawk will donate their talents as auctioneer and emcee, respectively. Earth Day, Easter and Egg-cellent Adventures

Friday, April 22 is the official Earth Day, the theme of which is a “billion acts of green.” To celebrate Earth Day 2011, take the family to the Philly Zoo's Spring Fling to party with the animals, or for a more serious conservational experience, trek up to the Pocono Environmental Education Center for hands-on learning, animal exhibits and time in the great outdoors. If you don’t mind getting a bit dirty, help with the Historic Downtown Bethlehem cleanup or take in a free evening lecture about creating a backyard habitat at the Bethlehem Area Public Library. Da Vinci Science Center's 'NanoDays' Illustrates Tiny Technology for Elementary Schoolers

Undergraduate students at Lehigh University have served as the collegiate partners since the center began hosting the program.

Most people, children and adults alike, aren’t used to hearing the phrase ‘nano’ unless it’s used in a conversation about Apple’s newest and tiniest version of the iPod. But on March 26, "nanotechnology" was the word of the day at the Da Vinci Science Center’s annual NanoDays event, held in cooperation with Lehigh University. NanoDays, now in its fourth year at the center, is a nationwide program produced by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE) Network. The event partners science centers with local university research institutions for a day of interactive exhibits and live demonstrations aimed at educating elementary school students about the study of nanotechnology. Ice Cream Wars Heat Up Da Vinci Science Center

Teams were required to use liquid nitrogen in a quest for funky flavors.

Taste testers of all ages turned out over the weekend for the Da Vinci Science Center’s Ice Cream Wars 3.0 event. Saturday’s competition in Allentown challenged teams to create a unique dessert using liquid nitrogen at negative 320 degrees Fahrenheit in order to activate the other ingredients in their recipes. The event kicked off with a brief demonstration of the liquid nitrogen ice cream making process by center aides, who were decked out in tie-dyed lab coats and goggles. In addition to liquid nitrogen, each recipe had a few basic ingredients in common, including milk, cream and sugar. Each team was also challenged to incorporate a mystery ingredient--caramel.
