Dog Control Officer Sought by Township

The position was discussed at length by Lower Saucon Township Council on Jan. 16.

Lower Saucon Township has announced that it is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Township Dog Control Officer. The position was discussed at council's Jan. 16 meeting, after Township Manager Jack Cahalan explained that Lower Saucon's relationship with the Center for Animal Health and Welfare--where stray dogs have been accepted for years--is tenuous. "This is a problem I guess all over Pennsylvania," Cahalan said. "The biggest problem is sheltering. There just (are) not enough facilities." Cahalan said the Center continues to have space issues, meaning that in some cases it is unable to accept stray dogs from municipalities with whom it has contracts. Before the township can attempt to drop off an animal at the Center--which…

Pets in Need of Homes: Achilles and Ra

These and many other pets are awaiting adoption at the Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Williams Township.

ACHILLES Achilles is a handsome, big-headed hunk of American pit bull terrier. He is new to the shelter, but is quickly becoming a favorite among those who meet him. He has decent leash manners, knows some basic commands, and loves to run and play in the yard. Achilles can get pretty excited when playing, so he would acclimate best to a home without anyone very young or very old in it. Come meet him yourself and see what you think! RA Ra was abandoned at the shelter in a crate. He is about four years old, 15 pounds and very friendly. Ra is in the conference room and has the luxury of spending most of his time out of cage, as he is in renal failure. Ra is still gorgeous and looking for a forever home for his final months. Come meet Ra and …

Center for Animal Health & Welfare Marks 100 Years

In an Easton gallery exhibit, the former Northampton County SPCA celebrates its anniversary while examining the challenges of caring for abandoned animals.

The Center for Animal Health & Welfare in Williams Township is marking its 100th anniversary this month with an unusual exhibit at an Easton art gallery. The exhibit opened Saturday at ConneXions Gallery, 213 Northampton St., where it spotlights the challenges the organization is facing while celebrating a milestone anniversary for the former Northampton County SPCA. The exhibit includes photos and memorabilia from the organization's century-long history. It also includes a display called “Boxes of Kittens,” an awareness exhibit that demonstrates what it takes for the organization to care for the boxes of kittens that are often literally left on the center's doorstep. Nearly 100 such boxes were left at the center in 2012. The display …

I adopted my little Timmytwo from the Center and he has been with us one year on January 22nd. He has brought so much joy to our home. If you are older and your kids are gone, consider adopting a pet from this no kill shelter. Having Timmytwo feels like there is a child in our home again, bring fun and laughter and love. I sing to him and he sings right alone! I say I Love You in a barking voice …   more ›
