MADALINE Madaline had a home but her owner was moving and she could not go. She is very friendly does not appreciate the company of other dogs or cats. A senior labrador mix, Madaline knows how to "sit" and would appreciate a home instead of a cage. POLLY Polly is a cute girl looking for a forever home. Polly is spayed, litter-trained, up to date on shots, microchipped and ready to go! She came to us as a stray and is eager for a family again. She likes other cats.

PENNIE Pennie is too cute. She had a home but her owner fell ill and now she is looking for a new home. This gorgeous gal is up to date on shots, microchipped, spayed and ready to go! ELSY Elsy is an adult terrier mix. She had a rough start in life, but holds no grudges. When Elsy was first brought to the shelter, she was dirty, exhausted, had just recently had puppies and was suffering from mastitis. She was very hungry and starting to become emaciated as well. She is very grateful for the care she received and is always eager to show everyone that by snuggling and giving them kisses. She is strong on the leash and doesn't know any commands yet, but does take treats gently. Elsy is sometimes a bit shy at first, but she's starting to learn…

Pit Bulls Get a Bad Rap, Owners Say

A local shelter says the dogs are victims of overbreeding and abandonment.

Easton Patch recently reported on a drug raid in the West Ward in which a dealer allegedly kept heroin under the bed where his 2-year-old son was sleeping. Readers were disturbed by that detail, but also by another one: The story noted the presence of a pit bull in the apartment at the time of the raid. Fans of the breed say it's another example of pit bulls getting a bad rap. "Had the dog been a Labrador retriever or a dachshund or any other breed, would the breed have been mentioned?" wrote reader Dave Rex. "On behalf of all the gentle and loving bully breeds in the West Ward: we resent the implication of guilt by association." COOKIE Cookie was adopted from the shelter years ago, but now, in her golden years, finds herself back. She had a home but her owner sadly passed away. She is very friendly and social and would love a home in which to spend her golden years. JORDO Jordo is a tiny guy that likes to be near you. He was found as a stray and was very scared, but now he is warm, friendly and likes to be held. He is only 7 pounds and would appreciate a home soon.
