Hellertown Library's Book Sale Offers Big Selection

Hardbacks are being sold for $2 and paperbacks are marked at $1, with many popular and mainstream authors' works available.

Hellertown Area Public Library kicked off their book sale Thursday evening with a “First Peek” event where bibliophiles could pay a minimal entrance fee and have first shot at the wide ranging selection. The sale, which is being held at Saucon Valley High School, will be free to the public on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 8pm and a half-price sale will start on Saturday at 2pm. Fifteen to 20 people were waiting for the doors to the sale to open on Thursday, however many were online booksellers looking for stock to re-sell. "I was surprised to see people with scanners coming in. I'd never seen dealers doing that before," said local resident George Velas. Jessica Goedtel, organizer of the book sale, credited the library's volunteers and …

All proceeds from the July 28-30 sale will help cover the ongoing and rising costs of running the library.

Now is a great time to clean out your shelves and donate books to the Hellertown Area Public Library, which will host its first big book sale from July 28 to July 30. The library is actively seeking book donations from local residents and hopes to double its current total of about 5,000 donated books by the time the sale kicks off.  Jessica Goedtel, a member of the Saucon Valley Library Task Force, is organizing the event and said it will be a unique sale because of the level of involvement from the community. “We have an ongoing book sale but this is different because we are really pushing for donations," she said. "As much as we’d like to shelve everything the library is too small and hopefully …

Beat the Winter Blahs with Books

The Bethlehem Area Public Library's annual "Winter Blahs Book Sale" kicks off Thursday at noon.

Why does the Bethlehem Area Public Library have the best book sale in the Lehigh Valley? Liza Holzinger, BAPL Public Relations Manager, claims it is because of the display, organization and the quality of their books. “No matter when you come, you’re going to find treasures,” Holzinger said. The Winter Blahs Book Sale is one of six book sales hosted by the Bethlehem Area Public Library throughout the year. More than 12,000 books, in addition to movies and music, will be available at the sale beginning Thursday, Jan. 13 from noon to 8pm, and again on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 10am to 4pm. The sale will take place on the ground floor of the main library, located at 11 W. Church St. in Bethlehem.  The Bethlehem library's sales aren't like other …
