The authority was founded in 1940 and currently serves more than 2,600 customers. Water distributed by the authority is sourced from 16 natural springs in Polk Valley and two wells located within the borough. The entire HBA watershed area is approximately 600 acres in size. The Hellertown Borough Authority headquarters are housed in an historic 1832 farmhouse on Durham Street, adjacent to the borough pool.

Dewey's main purpose remains protecting the lives of borough residents whenever fire breaks out. Dewey is led by Hellertown Fire Chief Rick Delmore. The company's Assistant Chief is Matt Andree. A small museum featuring displays related to the history of firefighting in Hellertown is housed in the fire company's headquarters on Durham Street.
