Holiday Gatherings, Kiffle-Making Demo, Photo Benefit to Help Pets: This Week

Here's a sampling of some of the events happening in the Saucon Valley this week.

Monday, Dec. 2

7 p.m., Hellertown Borough Council meeting, Borough Hall, 685 Main St., Hellertown

7 to 9 p.m., Saucon Valley Conservancy's 21st Annual Holiday Gathering and Meet the Artist Reception featuring the works of Betty Knesevitch, Heller Homestead, 1890-92 Friedensville Road, Hellertown. Decorated Christmas trees will be on display reflecting the progression of ornamentation available to German families throughout the years. Welcoming remarks at 7:30 p.m. Snow date: Tues., Dec. 3. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, Dec. 3

6 p.m., Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce's annual holiday mixer, Braveheart Highland Pub, 430 Main St., Hellertown

7 to 9 p.m., Saucon Valley School Board meeting, Saucon Valley High School, Audion room, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.

8 p.m., Trivia Night, Braveheart Highland Pub, 430 Main St., Hellertown

Wednesday, Dec. 4

12:30 p.m., Scam and Identity Theft Prevention Presentation, Capital Blue Store, The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, 2848 Center Valley Parkway, Center Valley. Learn about current scams and how not to become a victim. Light refreshments and an information take-home bag will be provided. Register online at www.capitalbluestore.com or call 855-505-2583. Free. 7 p.m., Lower Saucon Township Council meeting, Lower Saucon Town Hall, 3700 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bethlehem

Thursday, Dec. 5

6 p.m., Kiffle-Making Demonstration, Saucon Valley Community Center, 323 Northampton St., Hellertown. Expand your baking repertoire to include kiffles with the help of pastry chef Alice Totenbier. This live demo will begin at 6 p.m. and include fresh samples and many to take home. The cost is $18 to attend and the deadline to register is Monday, Dec. 2. 7 p.m., Saucon Valley School Board's special presentation about the recent report from a state-appointed fact-finder and her recommendations for ending the teacher contract dispute in the district, Saucon Valley High School auditorium, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown

Friday, Dec. 6

Noon, Photo Benefit to Help Feed Hungry Lehigh Valley Pets, Doggy Dao & Cat's Meow, 1238 Main St., Hellertown. You and your pet are invited to join the store for a "Give and Get" charitable event to benefit the Lehigh Valley Animal Food Bank. Give a $20 pet food donation from any store and get a wealth of gifts. Take home a complimentary professional portrait of your pet by renowned local photographic artist, Melanie Powell. Enjoy complimentary refreshments while your pet samples healthy treats. Note: Event repeats at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7.

6 to 8 p.m., Hellertown Historical Society's Holiday Open House, Heller-Wagner Grist Mill, 150 W. Walnut St., Hellertown. Enjoy light refreshments, live musical entertainment with the Lehigh Valley Idols, period holiday décor, visiting with friends, tours of the HHS's facilities and a vintage toy train display. While this event is free to attend and open to the general public, donations to help defray costs are certainly accepted. Note: Event repeats on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7

9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Minsi Trail Flower Club's 22nd annual Christmas Open House, Springfield Historical Church School, Route 212, Pleasant Valley. Shop for unique crafts and baked goods (including the society's famous kiffles), and enjoy displays. Free to attend. Note: This event repeats Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon to 3 p.m.

10 a.m., "Mistletoe Marketplace" to benefit Relay for Life of Saucon Valley and the American Cancer Society, Saucon Valley Elementary School, 2085 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown. There will be vendors of all types, gift basket raffles, food to purchase, activities for children and families, a children's gift shop, photos with Santa, baked goods and much more. Sponsored by Team Voices of Hope.
