Pets in Need of Homes: Fawn and Budgie

These lovable furry friends are looking for new owners. Can you help?

Each week we feature a cat and dog in need of adoption from the Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Williams Township. For more information about them, call 610-252-7722 or visit www.healthyanimalcenter.org.

FAWN

Fawn is an adult female American pit bull terrier, possibly mixed with some lab. She is petite in size and a very bright girl. Fawn is a graduate of Canine Good Citizens training and knows all her commands. She knows "sit," "down," "paw," "stay," "come" and "speak." When the mood strikes her she will also roll over. Fawn was adopted from the shelter several years ago and lived in a home with children and other animals (although she was bullied by another dog). Because of this, she does pick and choose which dogs she wishes to be friends with. Fawn keeps her cage clean and we believe her to be housebroken. When Fawn first gets out of her kennel, she does her business before having any interest in playing. When she is ready to play, though, she will race around the yard like a speeding bullet (occasionally stopping for a kiss or hug). All of this energy is very short-lived, however, and before long you will see her drop to the ground, roll around and graze for a bit. Fawn is extremely affectionate once she becomes your friend, but she sometimes takes some time warming up to people she is unsure about. When she is in her cage she can react, but most of the time once she is removed from that situation she is well behaved. Fawn appears to have more of an insecurity with men (especially bearded men), but even with men--once she sees that she can trust them--she will come out of her shell. Obviously she would do best in an environment with women, but she should do OK with anyone willing to take the time to get to know her and build the level of trust she needs to feel safe and secure.

BUDGIE

Budgie is less than two years old and loves to be playful like a kitten. He came to the shelter at the end of July 2010 as a stray from Easton. Budgie gets along well with other cats and is looking for a home with a new family to play and spend "fur-ever" with.
