'Music in the Park' Series Needs New Coordinator

Hellertown Enhancement Project (HEP) director Susan Ackermann told borough council recently that after 12 years at the helm of the Second Sunday Music in the Park concert series, she plans to step down from managing it.

Hellertown Enhancement Project (HEP) director Susan Ackermann told borough council recently that after 12 years at the helm of the Second Sunday Music in the Park concert series, she plans to step down from managing it.

The annual series takes place from June to August, when three free concerts are performed in Hellertown's Dimmick Park on the second Sunday of each month.

This year was a significant one for the Second Sunday series, because of the dedication of a new park bandshell in June.

HEP members spearheaded an effort to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the bandshell's construction.

Ackermann said she plans to remain active in the HEP, but told council, “I think it’s time sort of for a fresh approach and some new leadership” for the series.

She acknowledged that the music could die if new blood isn't found, but also told council she thinks a "self-managed program" could allow the series to continue.

"It actually could…almost run itself at this point," Ackermann said. "It’s been a very popular program, and I would hate to see it die."

She said she will help with the transition.

Anyone interested in helping to keep the Second Sunday concert series going in 2014 should contact Ackermann at (610) 838-1168.
