Historic Masonry Presentation to Be Held

Andy deGruchy, of LimeWorks.us, will give a free lecture at Lower Saucon Township's Seidersville Hall on Nov. 9.

Lovers of the Saucon Valley's old stone and brick buildings will want to attend a lecture by expert mason Andy deGruchy of LimeWorks.us on Nov. 9 at Seidersville Hall in Lower Saucon Township.

DeGruchy, who has more than 30 years of experience working with historic structures throughout the U.S. and abroad, will share his knowledge of the historic and current use of lime mortars, plasters and paints with members of the , which is sponsoring the talk.

The lecture, which will begin at 7pm, is free, and light refreshments will be served.

DeGruchy has recently held workshops at the Weisel Bridge in Quakertown and the Jean (Jacob) Hasbrouck House in New Paltz, N.Y. His writings have also been published in numerous magazines and books.

His philosophy, he says, is to "repair only the damaged areas of (an) old stone or brick building."

"A slow and minimalistic approach," he adds, is what solves most masonry problems.
