Annual Charity 'Duck Derby' to Be Held Aug. 4

Relay for Life of Saucon Valley's third annual Duck Derby in the Saucon Creek will be held Sunday, Aug. 4 at Water Street Park, Hellertown. The event benefits Relay, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.

It's almost time (again) to cheer for little yellow ducks floating in the Saucon Creek.

Relay for Life of Saucon Valley will host its third annual Duck Derby on Sunday Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in conjunction with the Saucon Valley Farmers Market at Water Street Park in Hellertown.

Participants buy tickets with numbers that correspond to each rubber duck (ducks can be rented in advance at the farmers' market each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

On the day of the derby, spectators will have the opportunity to cheer as thousands of the numbered ducks are dumped into the creek for a race toward the finish line, where a crew of volunteers will collect them with nets.

Duck rentals are $5 each, or a "6-quack" can be bought for $25.

Prizes will be awarded to the renters of the first 30 ducks to cross the finish line.
