Splash Pad Made Safer After Opening, Official Says

Hellertown Public Works Director Tom Henshaw told Borough Council June 18 that the pool's new splash pad had its surface roughened after it was initally found to be too slippery.

In the case of the new splash pad, a "rougher" opening was apparently what was desired.

That became clear when Borough Public Works Director Tom Henshaw told Borough Council June 18 that the surface of the new play area--which is next to the pool--was determined to be too slippery upon initial use by pool patrons.

That account was verified by Hellertown Patch users on Facebook, who commented that the play area was slippery shortly after it opened for the first time.

After briefly closing the play area, Henshaw said he "recoated it...and everything seems fine."

He said pool lifeguards are also monitoring the splash pad to ensure that there is no horseplay or unsafe behavior by the children using it.
