Coopersburg Gymnast Just Misses Cut for 2012 Olympics

Sixteen-year-old Elizabeth "Ebee" Price doesn't make the final cut, but is chosen as an alternate for the 2012 Olympic team.

and resident Elizabeth "Ebee" Price just missed the cut to represent the U.S. in gymnastics at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

Price, who came into Sunday's trials as a relative unknown, had a strong showing, coming in fourth overall.

Nevertheless--and in spite of the fact that there are five spots on the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team--a panel of judges chose Price as an alternate.

McKayla Maroney (who came in seventh overall at the trials in San Jose) was chosen for a spot on the team, with several commentators speculating that Maroney was chosen in part because of her strong showing on the vault.

When the news came that Price hadn't made the Olympic team, a Twitter feed erupted with people angry over the decision.

The Summer Olympics kick off July 25 with Opening Ceremonies.

The gymnastics competition begins July 28 and will be broadcast on NBC.
