Community Day Details Being Finalized

The volunteer committee that annually organizes is currently nailing down final details for this year's event.

The 11th annual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day will be held in the borough's on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10am to 5pm.

Last year the event was held until 8pm, but poor evening attendance prompted the decision to end the day's festivities earlier this year.

Presented by the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce, highlights of this year's Community Day will be lots of food, dozens of booths representing local businesses and organizations, music, dance performances, , children's activities, the opportunity to donate blood at the Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile, a grand prize drawing for two Allegiant Airline tickets, and the presentation of awards to two pillars of the local business community.

This year's local business honorees will be and .

Additionally, and Manager Bob Zerfass will be honored as the Saucon Valley's longtime, hometown team.

In addition to winning their league championship last year, the Royals have compiled an impressive record over the past 35 years, with Zerfass leading the team the entire time.

The recognition of the 2012 honorees will occur during a noon ceremony that local dignitaries will attend.

Community Day will begin with an opening Flag Ceremony led by local Boy and Girl Scouts at 9:50am. Singers from , a local music school, will also sing several patriotic songs.

The tentative schedule of events for the day is as follows:

9:50am - Boy and Girl Scouts Flag Ceremony, Encore Studios Singers Perform

10am - Opening of Vendor Booths and Children's Activities (Duck Pond, Trackless Train Ride, Speed Pitch Game, Kids' Korner)

11am - Performance

Noon - , Car Show Opens (Until 5pm)

12:30pm - K-9 Unit Demonstration

1pm - Musical Performance by The Deadliners (Until 3pm)

3pm - En Avant School of Dance Performance

4pm - Riding Demonstrations (Until 4:30pm)

4:30pm - Band Performance

5pm - Grand Prize Drawing, Closing
