Another Heat Wave Forecast for Area

High temperatures could reach the 90s this weekend--and stay there through next weekend.

Are you getting used to regular doses of the "three Hs" (heat, haze and humidity)?

Hopefully you are, because high heat is expected to return to the area this weekend, with even higher heat and humidity forecast for early next week.

the Weather Underground forecast for Hellertown predicts highs of 90 on Saturday and 93 on Sunday. On Monday, the high temperature is predicted to be 90 degrees--before climbing to 97 (with a heat index of 106) on Tuesday. Highs of between 91 and 99 degrees are forecast for Wednesday, July 18 through Sunday, July 22 (the last day of the long-range forecast).

The seven-day National Weather Service forecast for Hellertown is slightly more conservative, however it also predicts escalating temperatures for our area, with highs in the upper 80s over the weekend and the low 90s early next week.

Once high temperatures of 90 or higher are recorded on three consecutive days, a heat wave is officially declared.

Although the summer season is just a few weeks old, , with several deaths of elderly residents in Lehigh County attributed to the unusually high temperatures.

Able people should remember to check on the elderly, young children and pets in extremely hot weather.
