The many successes of Saucon Valley's fall athletes were celebrated at an awards ceremony Wednesday evening in the high school auditorium.

Each fall coach selected players who were honored as most improved or outstanding JV, outstanding senior and team MVP.

Fall 2013 sports included golf (2-14), cross country (boys 16-10) (girls 18-8), girls tennis (4-14), field hockey (9-8-2), volleyball (12-8), boys soccer (16-5), girls soccer (16-5) and football (9-3).

Some of the fall season's highlights across all of those sports included:

  • Cross Country: Elizabeth Chikotas' PIAA AA state championship. Chikotas became the 19th state champion in Saucon Valley High School history, and the eighth state champion the school has produced over the past nine years. She is also a four-time Colonial League champion and a District XI AA champion.
  • Girls Soccer: Alicia Binn broke the SVHS school record for goals scored, with 85.
  • Football: The varsity team won the Eastern Conference Championship with a 50-49 overtime win against Wilkes-Barre's Coughlin High School earlier this month. Senior running back Nick Savant broke SVHS's single season rushing record (2,135 yards) and all-time career rushing record (3,162 yards). He also racked up 31 touchdowns in 2013, for a career total of 43 TDs. Quarterback Keith Mosher threw for 1,106 yards. The 2013 SVHS varsity team became just the fifth in school history to record nine wins in a single season. The last time that happened was in 2004.
The Saucon Valley Booster Club was also recognized for its contributions to the athletic achievements of the school's students at Wednesday's ceremony.

Others who were recognized included "the Jungle" student fan section; all of the fall coaching staff and volunteers; the Saucon Valley Athletic Department staff, including Diane French, game managers, event workers and PIAA officials; and the Saucon Valley medical staff.

Saucon Valley Athletic Director Bob Frey emceed the awards ceremony, and Booster Club representative Sandra Miller also addressed attendees.
