Senior Spotlight: Kelsey Roetenberg

Roetenberg is a goalie for the Panthers lacrosse team.

Saucon Valley senior Kelsey Roetenberg has been only playing lacrosse since she was in ninth grade, but has become a skilled asset to the high school lacrosse program in that time. She began as a field player and when the need for a goalie arose, she decided to give it a try.

Although wins have been lacking for the team this season, positive improvement has been made, as evidenced by a one goal loss (12-11) to Liberty High School--a team that blew the Panthers away last year--on April 11. The winning goal by Liberty was scored during the final 30 seconds of the game.

Head Coach Lee Daignault said she has seen improvement in the team's performance and used the word "outstanding" when asked about her opinion of Kelsey's play as the Panthers' goalie.

The current number of third grade lacrosse players at Saucon Valley is about 30, and bodes well for the future of the high school lacrosse program, as interest in the game continues to grow.

Kelsey's favorite subjects are biology and chemistry, because she loves working in  the lab. She will enroll at Washington and Jefferson College in the fall, where she hopes to continue playing lacrosse and plans to major in pre-med, with a long range goal of becoming a medical researcher.

Kelsey has played tuba in the Panther marching band for three years and is a member of the school's chapter of the National Honor Society. In terms of mentors, she said her grandmother has had a definite influence on her life.

When the weather turns cold, Kelsey likes to escape, and she has taken several cruises and has also traveled to Europe. Her favorite food is definitely Italian food.

Kelsey is the daughter of Al and Kim Schmidtner.

Way to go Kelsey!!! Saucon Girl's Lacrosse is growing every year. We had 100 girls playing in the feeder league grades 1-8. The best is yet to come. It takes the hard work of our Varsity and Jr. Varsity to pave the way for the girl's coming up. GO SAUCON!!!
