Saucon Valley Lacrosse Day Held at Polk Valley Park

Lacrosse festival successfully combines family and sports.

Saucon Valley Youth Lacrosse hosted its second annual Lax Day in on Saturday, April 30. The event brought together youth lacrosse teams from throughout the Lehigh Valley for competition in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

In addition to the games, vendors were on hand to provide visitors with food and information. The lovely spring day was just warm enough to ensure great playing conditions for the youth who participated, while guaranteeing that parents purchased plenty of coffee to keep warm.

The Saucon Valley Youth Lacrosse program is currently in its sixth year. The program prides itself on cultivating an atmosphere in which all athletes can participate, and emphasizes learning the game of lacrosse rather than domination of other teams. The program has more than 190 participants ranging in age from 7 to 15 and also acts as a vital feeder program for lacrosse.

Lacrosse is a truly American sport, having its roots in games played by the Native American Iroquois. Although the game has evolved over the centuries, there is still a palpable "tribal" feel when bands of parents and athletes come together to participate in the sport.

Saucon Valley Youth Lacrosse is also sponsoring its fourth annual Golf Tournament on May 16 at the Center Valley Golf Course, with funds to benefit this growing community organization. Information on the golf outing can be found on their website, www.sauconvalleylax.org.
