Wish Lists

We all have wish lists, both big and small.

With apologies to Sir Walter Scott, "breathes there the person with soul so dead who never to him/herself has said," I wish that....... We all have wish lists, secret or openly expressed. Some wishes are pipe dreams; some are intensely and expectantly hoped for, e.g. "I wish it would stop raining" or "I wish I could have a puppy." You can probably think of several things you would put on a wish list faster than I can write the rest of this sentence. My wish list would include a couple of fantasy-world inventions. One would be a seedless ash tree. The billions--no, make that trillions--of seeds that fall on the sidewalk and driveway are making July and August seem like a production line gone amok. Whoever developed a seedless watermelon ought to be able to transfer the technique to an ash tree!

My second wish would be self-cleaning windows. Self-cleaning ovens are standard features in today's world and, although burning off accumulated grease isn't quite the same as washing a grimy film off a pane of glass, some ingenious person must surely have an idea that will save the civilized world from the "dirty window disease." In the meantime, the only options are to tackle the chore or tolerate the hazy view. Maybe I should just add to my wish list a preference for dirty windows. However, if a fairy godmother were to grant me three wishes, I would happily abandon those picayune ones and go for a world of peace, justice, and love--pipe dreams, maybe, but worth keeping at the top of my wish list.
