6 Worries to Wake You Up in the Middle of the Night

#1  The checkbook doesn’t balance.

In spite of repeated efforts to figure out why, the bank’s statement doesn’t match the balance in the checkbook, not by just a few cents, but by enough to pay the gas & electric bills for a cold winter month.

#2  The resident cat hasn’t climbed up on the bed, as is her custom.

She must be closed into a closet or has managed to escape when an outside door was open.  Shouldn’t a kind-hearted caretaker get up and look for the missing companion?

#3  Two elusive hats have failed to appear among the cool weather items that need to be located at this season of the year.

The male member of the household cannot find a tweed wool cap that should be on the shelf of the coat closet; the female member of the household cannot find a black knit hat that she believes is somewhere in the same closet.  Maybe these two missing items have eloped together!

#4 The computer printer is printing everything in red.

What is it trying to tell me? It is embarrassed? It votes with the politically conservative? It considers black too dull? I wonder, as I lie awake, why the black ink cartridge I just installed isn’t functioning.

#5 The bag of tulip bulbs has been waiting to be planted; it is time to do that.

I mustn’t keep putting off that chore. One of these days the ground will be frozen and it will be too late to plant.

#6 There’s a good possibility of rain tomorrow and two drains outside basement entrances to the house are surely plugged with leaves.

Experience has shown that if the drains aren’t cleared, the basement will have a mini-flood. Can I get take care of this job before the rain begins?

And then there are the really BIG problems of the world; I should consider myself very fortunate to have a roof over my head and a comfortable place to sleep, so I need to ship my worries off to the Land of Nod. I guess my 7th worry is where and how to book passage for them!
