Tentative Saucon Valley School District Teacher Agreement Reached

The school board and education association have been working with a state-appointed mediator.

The following was provided to Patch by Dr. Sandra Fellin, superintendent of Saucon Valley School District:

The Saucon Valley School Board negotiating team and the Saucon Valley Education Association met on Jan. 30 and reached a tentative agreement with the assistance of the state-appointed mediator. Details are confidential until both parties ratify the agreement on Feb. 24 (Association vote) and Feb. 25 (Board meeting).

The School Board and the Association have been bargaining a successor contract since January 2012. As the result of an Association request, the parties received a factfinder's recommendation on Oct. 28, 2013, which the School Board accepted and the Association rejected.  The School Board and the Association made compromises in the mediation session, but the quality of education and the District taxpayers ability to afford that education remain the objectives of both parties.
