SV School Board Meeting Rescheduled for Nov. 7

The Saucon Valley School Board meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7, the board announced at its Oct. 22 meeting.

The Saucon Valley School Board meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7, the board announced at its Oct. 22 meeting.

The reason for the date change is anticipation of a forthcoming report about the status of contract negotiations between Saucon Valley teachers and the district, according to an article published by the Express-Times.

Saucon Valley teachers have been working without a contract since June 30, 2012, and a neutral fact-finder was recently appointed by the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board to make recommendations and issue a report.

The report is expected to be issued later this month or early next month.

If both sides accept the state's recommendations they will become binding, but if they are rejected, the report and recommendations will become public, the Express-Times article indicated.

According to an article previously published by the Morning Call, two of the issues that have become sticking points in the contract talks are a teacher retirement incentive program and the decision-making process for teachers who want to obtain a district-paid graduate degree.

Saucon Valley School Board meetings are normally held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the high school Audion room.

Meetings are also live-streamed online, with the video recordings uploaded to YouTube.
