St. Mike's Walk-A-Thon Raises More Than $16,000

The money raised by the annual event will benefit the school's Home and School Association.

A recent Walk-A-Thon sponsored byin southern Lehigh County had students pounding the pavement for a good cause.

The annual event was held Oct. 21 at St. Mike's primary school in Lower Milford Township, and benefited the St. Michael's Home and School Association while promoting physical fitness.

More than $16,000 was raised ($5,000 more than the goal) for the association, according to a press release.

In the weeks leading up to the students solicited sponsorship pledges from family members and friends.

On the day of the event, students from St. Mike's middle school in Upper Saucon Township traveled to the primary school for an early morning pep rally that featured appearances by the Bethlehem Catholic High School dance team, football team and cheerleaders, "who led the students in warm-ups," according to the press release.

"When not walking, students participated in activities and workshops sponsored by Home and School’s Family Life Committee, stressing the importance of physical fitness and health. They also found respite inside the Parish Center playing bingo with the St. Joseph Church pastor, Father Thomas Buckley," it added.
