After his family relocated to the Saucon Valley from Chicago, center Christian Kennedy played basketball during his middle school years. He continued his hoops career as a member of the JV team and as a sophomore he became a member of the varsity team. He continued to improve his skills at basketball camps as a member of the Southern Lehigh Warriors during the summer of 2010 at DeSales University, and as a member of the Lehigh Valley Elite team at Lehigh University during the summer of 2011.
Some of Christian's career highlights as a member of the Panther varsity team include winning the 2011 Colonial League Championship and advancing to District XI post-season play in both 2010 and 2011.
What he calls his personal career highlights came this season.
On Dec. 24 he scored 16 points and hauled in 18 rebounds in an exciting, pressure-packed double overtime 59-55 win vs. Wilson, and on Jan. 24 he scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Panthers' 58-45 win over Catty.
Christian said the experience he gained as a member of the 2010 and 2011 title-run teams taught him "to slow down the game, stay composed and make plays." Perhaps as a result of that, most of this season's close games resulted in Panther wins.
Christian (6'6") also expressed that he was frustrated and disappointed that three senior starters-- (6'2"), Nate Robinson (6'5") and (6'3")--were unable to play this season due to injuries.
"Christian was one of our team's tri-captains this year and the only captain of the three to play the whole season," said head coach Matt Brown, who noted that he led his team this season in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. "He was rock solid as a leader on and off the court all year long."
Brown added that Christian is a "great kid with a great work ethic and a bright future."
Growing up in the Chicago area, Christian credits his cousin, Peter, for getting him "hooked on basketball" when he was just eight years old. His favorite professional player, he said, is Dwanye Wade.
In addition to basketball, he also played golf and baseball as a ninth-grader. As a junior and senior, he played football, mainly at quarterback, however in his final game against Quakertown he was used as a receiver and caught five passes for 44 yards.
Christian lists Government & Economics and Probabilities & Statistics as his favorite subjects in school.
St. Joseph's University, West Chester University and Bowling Green are three of the colleges on his radar, however he is leaning toward St. Joe's, as he said he was very impressed by its Haub School of Business. Christian had Division III schools such as Elmira College interested in him, however he explained that he wants to concentrate on education, and plans to limit his basketball activities to intramural/club participation.
Christian is the senior class treasurer and is involved with planning the senior class trip to New York City. He enjoys being involved in every school pep rally. He also helps with the "Little People's Church" and serves as a confirmation sponsor at Assumption B.V.M. in Colesville, Upper Saucon Township.
His favorite food is without question his mom's pulled pork!
Christian has two younger sisters, Katie and Campbell, and is the son of Tim and Susan Kennedy.
