Panthers Fall to Perkiomen Valley

In Friday's high school football showdown with Perkiomen Valley, Saucon Valley fans watched as the team squandered its 21-0 early lead.

The momentum began to shift in Perkiomen Valley's direction when Viking quarterback Rasaan Stewart scrambled up the left sideline, cut back to the middle and went 78 yards for a touchdown, crossing the goal line several seconds after the horn ended the first half and cutting the deficit to 21-14.

In the second half the Panthers went ahead 28-14, however the pesky Vikings also scored to make it 28-21. With the Panthers leading 35-21, Perkiomen went to a no huddle offense and scored three touchdowns to take the lead with less than three minutes remaining.

With just over two minutes remaining the determined Panthers had their last shot and drove to a first-and-goal at the two with 30 seconds left. With no timeouts remaining, Keith Mosher spiked the ball to stop the clock. With so little time on the clock two quarterback sneaks gained only one yard the first time and lost a yard on the second try. Some confusion with the referee's whistle caused a momentary pause, and time ran out before the Panthers could get off a fourth down play.
