Northampton Community College Named a 'Military Friendly' School

The Military Friendly Schools list includes Northampton Community College

For the second year in a row Northampton Community College has been named to the Military Friendly Schools® list.

The list honors the 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

The Military Friendly Schools®  website, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, features tools to help military students find school to suit their unique needs and preferences.  The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.

Northampton has welcomed veterans since the college opened in 1967.  Today more than 230 veterans are taking classes at Northampton’s campuses in Bethlehem and Tannersville and online.

In addition to having a certifying official who can help veterans access the educational benefits they have earned and apply for state and federal financial aid, the College’s support for veterans, includes a special orientation program to help them transition to the college environment. The "Band of Brothers," a student-veteran club that focuses on veteran-related issues on campus, is one of the most active student organizations at the College.

Through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the College is conducting a full-year exploration of the experience of military veterans during and after their service from 1945-present. Programs are open to all veterans and to the public free of charge.

Detailed information about the college’s outreach to veterans can be found at http://www.northampton.edu/veterans.htm
